Cottage Sofa - part 2
In my last post, I told you how my 16 year old sofa had never been comfortable. I had wanted to change it for years, three homes ago exactly, but there was always something more urgent to pay for.
This year, I'm trying to take care of the living-room, which should be Cottage's main room, but was so often used as storage room during the renovation that I never took the time to make it cosy.
Cottage was delighted when I told him that as far as the sofa was concerned, for once, I knew what I wanted.
Cottage: So, tell me more about that sofa you've chosen.
Petite Blonde: Well, since forever I've dreamt about an English sofa.
Cottage: Oh, no, this can't be good. We're in France, how are we going to find an English sofa?
Petite Blonde: Don't fret! There's an English brand which sells in France and even has a killer website where you choose the shape of sofa you want and then the fabric and it shows you how it'll look.
Cottage: Let's order!
Cottage : Allez, on commande !
Petite Blonde: Well, the thing is that the website also tells you how much it'll cost and it's very expensive.
Cottage: But you've been dreaming of it forever you said, so maybe it's worth it...
Petite Blonde: But I hadn't dreamt of having several cats and now that they are here, they spend more time than I do on the sofa... They won't change their little habits just because the sofa cost me a fortune.
Cottage: Well, couldn't you find one on your usual second-hand website?
Petite Blonde: I'm not sure. There are two things I don't like to buy second-hand, sofas and mattresses.
Petite Blonde : Ce site m'a souvent sauvée.
Cottage: I knew you would again make things difficult. What about that Swedish store you don't like very much but that all other bloggers seem to love?
Petite Blonde: Yes, they have one slicover sofa that I like, but...
Cottage: Again with the but...
Petite Blonde: Actually it's "buts". They only have two slicovers I like, the white one and the light blue one. I don't believe they'll be very forgiving with cat paws and don't see myself washing them every week or so. Plus, I keep seeing that one a lot, which is not something I like.
Cottage: Ok, then, I guess we'll keep the old sofa for an other year...
Petite Blonde: Hey, look what I found as I was browsing while talking with you...
Cottage: What? You were not 100% focused on our conversation. I'm so mad... Wait, what a lovely sofa there on your screen. It has everything you want: English style, wood legs, arms, stripes and washable slicovers! What website is it on?
Petite Blonde: Would you believe it? It's from that Swedish store we talked about a few minutes ago!
Cottage: Let's order!
Petite Blonde : Attends !
Tu l'as trouvé sur quel site ?

Cottage : Allez, on commande !
Petite Blonde: First, I need to visit the store to check if it's as comfortable as it looks.
Cottage: More waiting?
Petite Blonde: Don't worry! I'll do that as soon as I have some free time.
Cottage : Quoi ? On va encore attendre ?
A bientôt,
Hasta la proxima,

Perfect! A friend in Brittany has sofas from the Swedish shop, and they are so comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI tried it in the store and indeed, it was comfortable!
DeleteI like blue color, so cool...
ReplyDeleteI love blue for a seaside cottage!
DeleteCottage a raison. Bises.
ReplyDeleteLove all your inspiration. Can't wait to see the final result in situ. Jo @ Let's Face the Music
ReplyDeleteI'll post an update as soon as possible!
DeleteHi...Yay..i hope it's as nice as you hope it is..an cottage will be so handsome wearing a nice new sofa..i look forward to seeing more living room..sooooo..what yr do ya think we'll see the upstairs =^)
ReplyDeleteI know you will love this sofa. Can't wait to see it in your living room.
ReplyDeleteKris
Love the style! It will look quite at home in your Cottage!
ReplyDeleteMagali, I love your conversation with Mr. Cottage:). I hope it is a comfy couch from IKEA, slip cover is blue ticking?
ReplyDeleteMaking cozy changes in your living room, I'm sure the kitties are pleased:).
Have a wonderful day,
Kathleen in Az
Yes, they have several slipcovers, including a blue ticking one I love. Shadow didn't like it at first, but Milo loved the new sofa from day one!
DeleteHave you considered buying a pet cover for your couch to protect it? They sell them in lots of stores here in the US but I am sure you can find one online. Here is a link for some from Wal Mart https://www.walmart.com/c/kp/pet-furniture-covers
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day from rainy central Ohio!
Sharon
I have found som on a French online store, but I think I'm going to look for a plaid I like and is easy to wash. For now, we are using an old plaid.
DeleteThank you so much for taking the time to give me a link. Sending you a ray of Breton sunshine!
Magali
Nice!!! I have the same rule about sofas and mattresses - ewwwww 2nd hand!! Enjoy your new sofa!
ReplyDeleteIt looks promising. I love the blue ticking. Hope it's comfy to sit on. Does it have a slipcover? Maybe a cat quilt over it during the day would work. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMattresses and sofas (unless it's leather) purchased second hand? Ugh. No, thanks. I hope the sofa works out for you, Magali. xo
ReplyDeleteThese are custom made slipcovers for Ikea products. They are pricey but I wanted you to know about them.
ReplyDeleteCarla from Kansas
Well it didn't show the link I added. It is Bemz. Just google it.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I've already spent hours on their website, choosing my favourite fabrics, but the slipcovers are nearly the price of the sofa!
DeleteMagali
Oh, and thank you so much for thinking of me and telling me about it!
DeleteThis is so exciting to have a new sofa that you love! Can't wait to see it in your darling cottage. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeletexoxo Jo
Some things they have are very good for the price. I look forward to seeing what you chose wherever it is from. Beautiful inspiration photos. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteSooo...did you try it out? Was it comfortable? I can't wait to see it in your cottage, if this is the one you definitely chose!
ReplyDeleteYour conversations with cottage make me laugh out loud. Delightful! I hope the sofa is comfortable and perfect for you and cottage!
ReplyDeleteIt's quite comfortable and the cats and I are actually fighting to spend the evening on it! Pictures will be posted soon.
DeleteWe have SIX cats and 1 dog and they love the sofa from the Swedish Shop. The slipcovers wash like a dream and I probably only wash them a couple of times a year (only the dog goes outside, the kitties stay in the house.)
ReplyDeleteI believe pets love Swedish design and I love washable slipcovers! My kitties all go outside, but they also love sleeping on the sofa!
DeleteOf course I have the pupsters, and sometimes they come in with muddy feet even though they're on concrete, so I chose a brown sofa. I know it's not really trendy, but that was my choice.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Wonderful choice and nail biting story. Happy you found what you were looking for and cannot wait to see it in it's new home
ReplyDeleteCindy
It is cute that you and lovely cottage discuss the looks and ideas! I am glad you found somethign that is of your liking! Be happy and be well!
ReplyDeleteOne of our sons has a sofa from the 'Swedish shop' and it is very comfortable ... their cat likes it too!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
BRAVO! You are going to be happy!
ReplyDeleteOH WOW, Cottage is going to be so happy .... You can always put a sheet over the couch when your not at home so the kitty's don't get it dirty. Looking forward to seeing the couch.
ReplyDeleteMary
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see pictures of your new sofa. We live 3+ hours from an Ikea and I've only been twice. (Sob!) Enjoy that new sofa!
ReplyDeleteHey Magali, your first pic shows a sofa that is shaped exactly like my two; I have a three seater and a loveseat in the same fabric. The extra large armchair is in the same style and is done in cherry red, whereas the two couches are a delicate, English floral. We have the same taste, it seems! Go for it; you won't regret it!
ReplyDeletePoppy
The suspense is almost too much.

I love it!! That sofa is going to look just perfect in your charming cottage living room! And with pets, you will love the option of washing the cover....even if you don't do it terribly often! I wash mine maybe 2 or 3 times a year and that's enough.
ReplyDeleteI love that you found something that will make you, cottage and the cats all very happy! It is so charming! And practical! Well done! xx Karen
ReplyDeleteSome pieces of furniture must be purchased with the cats in mind!!!
DeleteI'm glad you found what you were looking for. Hope to see it soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI imagine that you have already your sofa in place at the cottage. We have just purchased sofa and chair for our place as well. I hate the thinking and trying to make a decision on these things. We got it from our local furniture store since buying online is a real no no with us. Share with us what you got for cottage!
ReplyDeleteI loved all of the photos that you have shown Magali. I think this is just what cottage needs! Can't wait to see it in your home. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Can't wait to see it in your living room!
