A Little Random Post
Here in Brittany, as it's often the case, we had a summer-like month of September. I went to work in sandals, didn't need any heating inside Cottage, the cats spent all of their waking time and even some nap time outside and basically it was like we still were in holidays except I had to go to work every day!
And then all of a sudden, autumn has arrived. The days are definitely shorter, which means that I drive to school when it's still dark in the morning. It makes for wonderful sunrise, though.
Even if it's still sunny, the temperatures are chillier and I was positively cold this morning at the empty-your-attic sale I went to. The cats are therefore spending more and more time inside. Even an unfinished bedroom is welcoming when there's a sunny window there!
Picture taken early in the morning, so the light isn't great... |
It's time to pick up the last gift from my potager and to gather pretty branches from the garden to be enjoyed inside.
It's time to appreciate the last hydrangea blooms before the rain ruins them.
It's time to bake apple recipes and to bake home-made dried fruit bread...
You can see behind the bread that it's still dar when I have breakfast... |
It's time to tackle the last outside project before the winter rains make it impossible. Can you guess what I'm working on from that last picture?
What is autumn like where you live? And, yes, I understand you may call it "fall" depending on where you live ;)
See you next time!
A la prochaine fois !
It's about the same here. We were very hot in September, but it finally feels more like fall. The leaves have not turned yet where we live, but should soon. Yes, dark in the morning and it makes me want to stay in bed, but Miss Bailey won't allow that. I need to start cooking my apples, too before they go bad. I guess I better go get some groceries today.
ReplyDeletethe season goes by both autumn and fall here in the states. our mornings are darker than they had been and the nights are getting dark faster, we wake up to temperatures now in the 50's and daytimes have been in the wonderful 70's. The sweet potatoes are ready in the garden and I didn't plant a lot so I can dig them up as I want to use them and there will be enough for a month or so. I love this time of the year even though the days are shorter.
ReplyDeleteWe had a very long fall this year, last night was the very first hard frost - generally that happens at the end of August/beginning September!
ReplyDeleteI hope winter flies by as quickly as spring/summer/fall did!!
Here in Antwerp, Belgium, autumn is not that different from where you live. We always have a few degrees more in temperature, but not much. Today we have periods of rain, too. All rain coming from the West and falling on you, is due to arrive here the next day :-) Sooo of course we hope most of it has fallen down by then (unfortunately that is never the case haha). Have a great autumn, with small indoor chores to keep you busy :-) Marie (just started knitting...)
ReplyDeleteI should post about the weather every day so you'd know what to expect the next day ;)
DeleteThat sounds like a great idea :-) But in case you forget or lack the time to do so, I can rely on our own weather forecast. Although they often present things more brightly then true ! Have a super day and a cosy evening with the kitty ! Marie
Bises
ReplyDeleteHi Magali, the Autumnal pictures are beautiful, especially the sunrises. Time for you and the kitties to settle in for the Fall weather and I'm sure with all the improvements, especially upstairs, Mr. Cottage will keep you all warm and cozy:).
ReplyDeleteAre you painting the table outside?
Kathleen in Az
It's not the table I'm painting, guess again!
DeleteI like the look of your apple bread – would be quite yummy with a nice hot cup of coffee. Here, in Georgia, we have had no fall yet, it is still quite warm and everything is green; I long to see golden leaves. It is getting a little bit cooler though and that is a relief as we had no temperature in the 70s F (22 C) since last May, as it has remained constant in the 90s F (33 C +.) We get beautiful apples in the North Georgia Mountains – we’ll have to make a trip there shortly to get some.
ReplyDeleteSo far we're having a bit cooler nights, yet hot days. Be glad for fall!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
The sky is so beautiful! Cute kitty!
ReplyDeleteBreton skies were famous among painters in the 19th century...
DeleteIt has been wonderful. And like you, I've been going into the classroom in summer-like clothing because though autumn has reached us with colors, it is still warm. This is however, a GLORIOUS time of year. Cottage looks wonderful!
Good Morning Magali. Your fall is much like ours here in the Midwest region of the United States. I miss those longer days of summer and sunshine but the fall brings such pretty colors to all the trees. Have a great new week ahead.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
Hi...if i didn't know better i'd think you lived here in Maryland..we'll be setting our clocks an hr back the end of this month..do you do that there..i really wish we would stop..dark going to work..dark coming home..depressing..i say fall..but it's actually autunm..we've had a ton of rain this past week..i'm hoping our "fall" colors are really nice this yr..what's the plant cuttings you brought in to enjoy..some hydrangea would look pretty in with it..
ReplyDeletehope your week is off to a good start..enjoy the sunrises.!!
Hi Magali! Here in Wisconsin, it has been a beautiful Fall so far. I enjoy the cooler temperatures...I feel more energetic! In the 60's most days. The trees are just beginning to turn colors. Enjoy your schoolyear!
ReplyDeleteThe leaves are just beginning to turn here, but only on some trees like mapples.
DeletePretty much the same here in the northeast Magali. I love autumn (I actually call it Fall too sometimes), but I miss the longer days.

In Texas it's still hot but starts to cool down at night. I am always so happy when it finally does. Your garden has been good to you this year. Lovely flowers. Enjoy your Autumn!
ReplyDeleteWhat a calm, soothing post...just lovely to read. My guess is you are painting wainscotting in the kitchen...a very nice grey...or perhaps the kitchen chairs. Here in New Mexico, September is still very hot (90 degree days with 60 degree nights...the temperature is almost always 30 degrees from day to night in the desert). Come October, it's as if a switch is turned off and the cold comes. Still azure blue skies. Long sleeve, light jackets, sweater weather. The huge international balloon fiesta is happening now...first 10 days in October...cold mornings and warm afternoons...really lovely. Leaves are slowly changing from green to golden yellow. No brilliant reds, more muted colors of yellow and orange. Pretty. And so thankful for the coolness of Fall. Enjoy school. :)
ReplyDeleteHere in Oregon we are starting our fall and still enjoying lots of blossoms in the garden. We have had rain off and on and cooler temperatures for 4 days. At least saves on cost of watering!
ReplyDeleteAutumn has arrived in NY finally as well. We had a warmer than normal September, and I am happy to finally be able to go outside again. I don't like to be out in the heat unless I am in the water! Also, it is nice that my classroom is cooler. For most of September my students and I were sweating all day. My cats are starting to snuggle more. I guess they must be cold at night because we still haven't turned the heat on, but there are sometimes five of us in the bed, so it heats up quickly!
ReplyDeleteOh I love your photographs, especially those hydrangea blooms.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is approaching quite quickly now, the nights are chillier but the Autumn leaves are stunning, I just love the different colours.
Enjoy October
All the best Jan
My wife woke up at 6.30 am on Thursday morning and had a nice bright drive to work. She doesn't work on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. This Monday morning, it was dark!!! She said, "No fair! ... When does daylight savings time start?" Since we live in southeastern NC, the days are still delightful, although the nights are getting cooler. It isn't as hot, but the cooler days are welcomed. It's funny how all the sudden something has changed — like we didn't see it coming. LOL
ReplyDeleteLovely to see your transition to autumn, there at the cottage, dear Magali! Such a peaceful, tranquil post with sleeping cat, garden gifts, beautiful sunrises, and delicious baking. We are much the same here....autumn does seem to happen overnight! We might be having a warming fire soon.....Curious about your painting project :) Drive safe in the dark mornings. xo Karen
ReplyDeleteEverything looks lovely in your autumn cottage.
ReplyDeleteWe are still waiting for a proper autumn to arrive. It is teasing us with falling leaves and cooler mornings but it is still very hot.

Bisous. Babette
Magali, I envy you (and most of the rest of you!) your transition into Fall! Here in Miami, Autumn is only visible inside my home where I decorate with real and faux pumpkins, Indian corn, bare branches and leaves. The temps are back to the 90s and today we are in fear of Hurricane Mathew. Even if he doesn't hit us full force, it will be an immense chore having to bring in all of the chairs, tables, umbrellas and decorations. But we are not complaining, instead we are praying for Haiti where the hurricane is causing catastrophic damage. Pray!
ReplyDeleteYour autumn looks like and sounds like Fall in the midwest. I do love fall since everything cools off but I also remember bitter cold is soon to follow. Our remodel has kept us from enjoying summer and hopefully Fall with be much easier to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAutumn Fall it's all the same where I live. It's just beautiful! My roses are so gorgeous, I can see them from outside my kitchen window. They make me smile and I need lots of things to make me smile as I recoup from my total knee surgery and to think when this one is healed I will be having the other one done. I will soon be the bionic woman!
ReplyDeleteSending Autumn blessing your way! xx Jo
Right now it is 75 degrees and beautiful. The leaves are just starting to get a rosy glow but not yet full colors! So good to hear from you this week!
ReplyDeleteIt was 86 degrees today, not unusual here. We were still in the nighties last week and hoping for low eighties soon. Pretty normal for us to stay warm till mid October. Shorter days now and yes, we are still in shorts and sandals, flip flops too. I have my autumn pumpkins, but inside until it's cooler then on the porch with mums. Enjoyed your sunrise photos, just beautiful.............
ReplyDeleteFall has come to us as well! The temps are 52 degrees Fahrenheit today. Love all apples recipes and here it is time for pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, etc. Lovely hydrangeas and I was wondering what branches are those you got with the small white berries, they're so pretty!
ReplyDeleteStill very warm here but tomorrow it will cool down just a bit. I am hoping the leaves will really start changing soon. I would like to turn off the air conditioner and open the windows on a daily basis for awhile. I see that you are eating gluten free, as am I . I use an all purpose gluten free flour and just substitute it in my baking. It works wonderfully. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteAutumn is my very favorite time of year! I love the moderate temperatures (usually 60s-70s). It doesn't last nearly long enough though. And, of course, that means winter is on its way. Why is it the older we get, the shorter the years become?
ReplyDelete-andi
Your fall/autumn sounds much like ours right now. October here is beautiful, but fickle. It can be warm and sunny, dreary and rainy, or downright cold. Your bread looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI love the seasons, Magali. We've had (are having) a pretty good autumn - chilly, but reasonably sunny; I fear 'tis about to change, though!

bisou et bon we
Marry Poppins

Autumn finally arrived over here, too. I considered putting a frowny face at the end of that sentence, but I love fall. I'd let it be perma-fall if I could. We went apple picking and made apple pie on Sunday, and today my baby wanted apple cupcakes. Her wish is my command. Topped with maple frosting. YUM! Hope everything's going good for you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, seasonal colours in your autumn skies, Magali. Like you, I'm enjoying the last of the warmish days, baking apple cakes and taking my daily walks before it gets too cold. Enjoy!

We've had a similar autumn here in NJ. Last week, it was very warm - like summer. This weekend, the temperatures dropped, and the winds picked up. My summer flowers are still blooming alongside my mums and pumpkins. Love your photo of the roses against the sunset!
