The Beast

Bookcase Update - part 3

For a whole evening, after the parts of the bookcase were delivered, I couldn't use my living-room. The delivery men had just brought the parts in and let them where they could, so the next day I even had difficulties catching a pair of shoes in the cupboard under the stairs as a huge box was stuck in front of it!

If you've read the blog for a little while, you know I like to do things on my own, eventually with the help of a supervising cat or two. But for once, I had to call for help and a friend kindly came to play Tetris with really big boxes...

The four parts of the bookcase were attached two by two, which wasn't that easy as Cottage's floor isn't perfectly leved. That also made more complicated the moment we tried to put the crown molding on top of everything.

Now of course, a bookcase should have bookshelves… They are all piled in two boxes near the blue armchair. They aren't in place yet… There's a very good reason why. Can you guess? Answer in the next post...

See you next time,

PS2 : The blurry photos are due to the lack of the sunlight at the time we got the bookcase at this stage of its history.

Bon courage. Bises. Babette

  4. how beautiful they are - they go with this living room so well - I totally understand about your floor being uneven - I live in an old house and nothing is straight and even! You had to adjust underneath those book cases to make it all level I'm sure. Good thing you had help! now to get your shelves in - did the pins come with them to hold them in place or do you need to look for some? Looking forward to see them full of books and things.

  12. It is so pretty! Are there levelers under the cabinets? That makes it easier. Otherwise you can slide things under to raise them like a thin tile or thin piece of wood. It doesn't show, but you may have to cut the pieces. It take some trial and error, but it works. xoox Su

    1. Thanks a lot. It is big, but I wanted it to take the whole wall. The decorating will be limited by books, but that's the way I intended it.

  19. Oh my gosh! They are beautiful. I am quite jealous. I'm guessing the shelves are not installed because something is missing. Maybe the peg things to hold the shelf?
