Deep Thoughts

Cottage Sofa - part 1

I've been oversnowed with work lately and so, no I haven't forgotten I have to keep you updated with what's going on at Cottage, I'm just running after time.

Still, I thought it was worth taking a moment to share the following conversation...

1.
Cottage: It's spring! It's spring! It feels so good to have some warm sunshine on my old stones.

Petite Blonde: I'm happy too to be able to spend some time in the garden...

Cottage: Now, can I talk to you seriously? There's something bugging me.

Me: Sure. What's on your mind?

2.

3.
Cottage: All winter, as you were reading your usual decoration blogs, I noticed that everybody bragged that their cottage was "hygge", whatever that means... Am I hygge?

Petite Blonde: Cottage, you know how much I love you, but...

Cottage: Oh, don't sugar-coat it! I'm not hygge, am I? That is so sad, it seemed such a geat thing to be!

Petite Blonde: No, don't take it too hard. You've improved so much since we've met. Do you realise how much cosier you are now that your roof has been insulated?

4.

5.
Cottage: But I want to keep improving! Let's go through that list of hygge things... Ah, hot cocoa. This is an easy thing to do and it's not expensive. We could drink hot cocoa!

Petite Blonde: Cottage, you know I don't like hot cocoa. I don't see how hygge it would be to do something I don't like.

Cottage: Right. What about candles? The list says to light lots of candles and you love soft light.

Petite Blonde: Candles? Inside? You mean burning paraffin indoor? Are you crazy?

6.

A l'intérieur ? Tu n'es pas un peu fou ?

7.
Cottage: I feel it's going to be no... You're SO complicated. Now can you do number three on the list? Curl up on the sofa with a good book? You can't deny you love reading!

Petite Blonde: Good point, good point...

Cottage: I know there's a "but" coming after that (and not the one that supposed to be on the sofa).

Petite Blonde: NEVERTHELESS, our sofa is the most unconfortable thing ever... It was great to use as a sofa/bed when I was a student in Paris...

8.

9.
Cottage: I can't win! All the other cottages on blogland are going to make fun of me...

Petite Blonde: Now, now, don't cry, it's not good for the humidity level... I've been meaning to change the sofa forever for something a little more cosy, with arms and comfy sitting as on my inspiration pictures... Maybe I can do something for you...

10.

11.
Cottage: Thank y.... Oh, don't tell me now you're going to agonise about which sofa you want for weeks...

Me: Maybe... or maybe not... That's for the next episode anyway!

12.
Cottage : Merci...

13.

See you soon,

A bientôt,

Hasta la proxima,

  1. Bonjour Cottage, salut Magali!

WOW! What a conversation! Cottage, you are divine. La Petite Blonde has every intention to continue your progress, but you are sweet already and much loved! Much inspiration collected here and the small elements in each photo that make those homes "HYGGE", you will get them. It will just take some money and a little time. It will happen!!!

  2. Coucou Magali,

  3. I think cottage and PB are well on the way to HYGGE! You have compiled a great source for inspiration, I love something in ever photo. I see a big creamy white slip covered sofa in cottage for PB to curl up and read her books.......Cottage is getting there.

  4. I love all of your inspiration pictures. I have some of the same ones pinned. We're planning to get a new sofa in the near future as well and I know it's going to be an agonizing decision. Don't worry, Cottage, we would never make fun of you - we have all signed the blogland anti-bullying pledge! : )

  7. A rolled arm, comfy cushions, and a neutral color, so you can add colorful afghans, quilts and pillows ( for you and kitties ). Perhaps No. 9 and 12. Mr, Cottage has his own Hygge going on:)

  9. Oh, poor Cottage! So impatient! But it's the age-old problem for all of us -- money and time! I have a bonus room above our garage that needs new sofas and chairs. When one sits on a sofa, she pretty much sinks right to the floor (almost!). But what I want costs too much money, and what my husband wants, I don't like! Maybe that will make Cottage feel a little better! :) I love #1, #7, and #8 of your inspiration photos. The tiny bits of pink with the blue and white would be so pretty in Cottage. I can also see a cute little heater in your fireplace! What plans do you have for that?

    1. I also had to compromise between what I really wanted and what I could afford for the sofa... But the cats seem happy with my choice!

    2. You made a good choice! And as long as the cats are happy, I'm happy too! :)

  11. I know whatever sofa you choose will be perfect for Cottage. You have a good track record. I have to tell you that I am absolutely smitten with your #4 inspiration photo. How gorgeous is that! Positively my style. Love it! xo

  13. I think my sofa is completely satisfied with our sofa, but I am not. I've been looking too, but my issue is slipcovers or leather. Lulu brings in so much sand and my white slipcovers stay crisp and white for about 2 hours after a washing. I saw a gorgeous navy blue leather sofa in a pic, but of course can't find it anywhere.

  14. I love the room on photo #4, but my favorite sofa is the one in photo #8. Some think fabric on a sofa is more work (it's not), but leather is so cold to sit on! brrr! Can't wait to see what you choose for Mr. Cottage.

  16. Oh poor Cottage, he wants to be so proud of everything. Doesn't he realize all the work you have done to the Cottage. I am sure you will pick the right comfortable sofa when you see the one you really want.

  21. I love your conversation...so real and true. Everything gets done in its own time. I feel for you with the sofa decision. I have a gorgeously strong and beautifully made sofa but it had faded over time. I had it reupholstered for 1/8 of the cost of a new one. Might you check into that? You can pop by my latest post to see it.:)
