Watching TV with Magali ( and possibly some cats) - part 2
So today was my first day of the French Autumn Break and did it feel good to stay in bed till 9 o'clock with the cat cuddled against me.

Now, I had to finally get up, because I have a very tight schedule for those so-called holidays.
First, I was so late on housework that even if I spent the entire day cleaning, I'm far from done.
I also began decorating for autumn.
I have to say I didn't edit that picture: those roses have an amazing colour. |
I know everybody else in blogland is already pulling their Christmas tree out of the attic. But I'd rather follow Nature's timing and the fact is that in Brittany, it's just beginning to feel like autumn.
I'll show you my very simple autumn decor in a later post. Everything is not ready, because I spent some time on the phone with a friend of mine planning a shopping trip to Ikea for next Monday.
Again, unlike everybody on blogland, I'm not Ikea's first fan... But they might save my kitchen-project-on-a-budget.
So I had some homework to do: write a shopping list so I won't forget half the things I want because the number of alleys just get on my nerves and I loose my temper (not talking from experience at all...)
And I also had to rewatch some episodes of The Vampire Diaries because I love the kitchen in the TV show and will never forgive the character of Elena for burning it... Good thing I kept pictures!!!
So among the maning things I love in that kitchen:
- white cabinets,
- long table,
- glass cabinets on top,
- the island,
- the saucepans hanging from the ceiling,
- the bookcase,
- the off-white walls and the bead board,
- the Paris metro tiles,
- the sign "Making memories" above the cooking range...
I'm sorry for the hot guys and charming chicks that seem to aways be in the pictures, somehow the directors seem to believe characters are important (sorry Andi, I did try to have a shirtless guy... But it didn't happen.)
Is that an Ikea rack I spy on the far left? Must add that to tomorrow's list, give me a minute, please.
So what do you like or don't like from that kitchen? What ideas should I keep for my cottage kitchen? Don't say Ian Somerhalder, please!
Please send me some patience for the Ikea trip!
A bientôt,
See you soon,

Cozy Little House (whose button is driving my post crazy, so I'll put it later!)
That is a nice kitchen. I've never watched this show but my brother loves it and he gave me the 1st season for Christmas so maybe I should give it a try.
ReplyDeleteHi Magali, What a funny post! I also buy some things in Ikea and a friend of mine has set the whole kitchen, I think it's very usefull for some details but not for everything.Good luck! I'll be waiting to see your shopping
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to take your plan with you for them to check over. I've had two Ikea kitchens and have been pleased with them, one was freestanding, one fitted. Buy the best quality you can afford. We used their oak worktops which after 7 years were still good. Bonne chance!
ReplyDeleteThat kitchen is to die for! I love all the things you mentioned and also the drawer pulls, my favourite I think, and the mix of woods. No can do on the patience I'm afraid, I'm fresh out following a recent trip myself. I recommend frequent coffee breaks including Swedish cake!
ReplyDeleteBon dimanche Tinou
I don't watch that show so wasn't familiar with the kitchen, but I can see why you love it! Ikea is hit or miss, sometimes you can get some really well built/crafted items and sometimes not. I like their unfinished wood pieces that I can paint or stain myself. Have fun on your trip! I find when I go to Ikea that the earlier I get there the better, the crowds haven't yet surged!

Never seen the show but I love the kitchen. Okay, I wish I had a bookshelf in my kitchen but I don't...love that. I love a hanging pot rack and continue to love mine. I love that table in the kitchen...fabulous. But what I love the most is the built-in armoire. It is such a unique piece. I think when designing a kitchen you need to consider what that one "statement" piece is going to be. You may already have it in your home but just never realized how unique it could be in your kitchen space. Something like that armoire slash cupboard becomes very useful but yet such a "wow" piece that it makes the space.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Are you sure your just watching the show just for the kitchen?! this show is one of my 'dirty' little secrets - I follow it because of hot Damon! Yup, I'm a sucker for bad guys Magali and luckily I ended up with a "stephan-like" guy! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteDieu sait pourtant que j'aime tout ce qui est ancien, mais paradoxalement, je suis fane d'Ikéa, pour son linge, sa vaisselle, ses luminaires, ses marche pieds qui sont fabuleux & pour l'agencement des petites surfaces. Leurs cuisines sont pas mal du tout & tout ce que tu aimes dans cette cuisine, tu le trouveras chez Ikéa c'est sûr;
ReplyDeleteBon shopping alors. Bises. Babette
I have never seen the Vampire Diaries - don't own a television - but I sure do like that kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI too will be making an IKEA run this week. My daughter needs a sofa and some lamps for her new home along with a television and a refrigerator, but they won't come from IKEA.
Love Love Vampire Diaries! And I'm with you on watching the sets for ideas and inspiration! I loved the show Family because of how the hose was decorated!
DeleteMagali
I don't watch that show so it's hard for me to just look at the kitchen pictures and give you an answer. From what I can see it's a very lovely kitchen. I am sure what ever you decide on will look terrific and you have good taste. Count to 10 before your loose your cool and everything will be fine.
ReplyDeleteHappy hunting..... and enjoy your holiday off from school.

That kitchen has a lot of classic elements as well as country. I like how the cabinets go to the ceiling; a small kitchen needs that extra space. I have that element on one side.
ReplyDeleteLike Anne, I also like ikea's natural wood products and their metal products. Their natural wood products can be painted, stained, or left natural.
And like Donna, I agree about the statement piece. I have that large floral armoire in my dining room, and I can see it from the kitchen. So I wanted the cabinet color to work with it.
Best wishes on your trip!
I do love the photo of that kitchen - the table is magnificent! I think you should definitely have one of those. I like that little round spice rack, too - very practical! Enjoy your vacation!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely kitchen and I like everything about it, but my favorite is probably the simplest thing. The Making Memories sign....love it! I love Ikea and wish there were one closer to me. The closest one to me is over 2 hours away. They have so many interesting things there. I hope your trip goes smoothly my friend and you find everything you need. Enjoy your autumn break! I was blessed with a 4-day weekend and am loving it.

Bon courage pour tes recherches chez Ikea !
ReplyDeletehave you used the IKEA kitchen planning tool? I find it so nice to work with, I have over 30 versions saved on my ikea account =) It is very useful for measuring, of course, but you also get a complete shopping list. You can also log in at the store and get the ikea-kitchen sales person to make the order, so all you have to do is pay in the cashier and go to the pickup place and it is all nicely packed =) I love the new system, Metod (method) that replaces the old Faktum (facts). It goes lower to the floor and their new cottage- cabinet doors are a lot nicer. My fav is the dark one, laxarby. http://www.ikea.com/se/sv/catalog/categories/departments/kitchen/roomset/20134_nkro03a/
ReplyDeleteOf course, I would prefer a handmade one, but then again, I would rather spend that money on really good wine =)
Thank you, thank you, Louise for that comment. I understood from what you said that the new kitchens were already on Ikea Sweden, whereas in France they are all a big scary mystery. So now I'm using the Swedish planner to see what my kitchen could look like with the new cabinets. I had to learn some Swedish vocabulary, but it's fun!
DeleteWhat a fantastic kitchen. I can see why you love it. I feel for you having to go to Ikea :( It's pretty much a three hour visit, with two of those hours wasted at the til...lol
ReplyDeleteI love The Vampire Diaries and I do love the kitchen. That long table is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteIkea.... I have a love/hate relationship with that place. It's so huge and overwhelming but I do like shopping in the kitchen wares. I have to pack a TON of patience when I go and make my list out before hand, too. And then Tristan wants to hang out in the different kitchens. He would stay in that area forever if I would let him. But I must say, I don't mind. Sometimes they have really neat ideas or things I wouldn't have thought of. Good luck and enjoy your time off.
HAHAHAHAHA!!! I'm SO behind on my reading! What a treat to read this post this morning! I'm sorry you couldn't find a shirtless shot of Damon or Stephan...they're both so yummy!!! I love that kitchen too! But I could gaze at Ian Somerhalder all day long...!!!

I've never seen the show either but the kitchen looks really nice. I have a small kitchen so I don't like too many wall cabinet's because this would make it feel even smaller, but I see you've been to Ikea already - sorry I'm a bit late.
