Summertime

Summer At The Cottage

Everyone is already decorating for fall and I never took the time to show you my summer decor. Is it too late? I, for one, am not ready for fall.

Come in the porch, please. One at a time, be patient, it's very small.

I know very well that the most successful beings on this blog are my cats...

Every member of the team loves the summer deoration and especially the blue pillow, though I didn't get a chance to snap a picture of Piano.

For once, I have set the table for tea in the living-room so you could have a look at my mantel.

The mantel was done in a hurry one night, the day before a friend arrived to spend a few days at the Cottage.

Everything on this mantel has been thrifted in empty-your-attic sales, except for the white pitcher which was a gift from my mother when I arrived in Brittany. Hydrangeas are from my garden.

To me, the next shot is just like a visual list of things to do in that room, but hopefully you can concentrate on the coffee table that serves as a tea table for today!

The teapot and creamer were found by a good friend of mine in an empty-your-attic sale I couldn't go to. They are Wedgwood willow. I was so proud of her that she noticed them in all the junk you can see in those sales. I trained her well, don't you think?

The cups and embroidered mats were found in a great sale that was taking place last weekend on a road along a beach... I didn't know what to watch: the sea or the tables... But I came back with a full basket!

I have several of these nautical Breton boxes and I thought one was needed on the coffee table. Sorry about the bad quality of this picture. The sun decided to reappear right at that moment... when I had to keep the lights on for all the previous pictures!

Now what was I wearing for that little tea party? What do you mean you don't care about my old jeans? You will care if you look at my feet... Yes, I have found shoes for my friend's wedding!

Many of you suggested that I could go to the wedding naked, wearing only my umbrella (you can read here if you don't understand what I'm talking about), but I was a little afraid my feet would hurt, so I decided some shoes would go nicely with the umbrella...

There are the not-too-sunny day shoes and the sunny-day ones. Which ones are your favourite?

See you soon,

A bientôt,

PS1: I might have been wearing those shoes lately to clean the Cottage, just to get the leather used to my feet.

PS2: My neighbour knocked at the door yesterday when I was wearing sweat pants and the white sandals with the discount tag still on the strap! He helped me with a little project you're allowed to know nothing about yet!

PS3: Do you really think I need a dress to go with the shoes?

PS4: If you're in love with my blue enamel coffee pot... You can find it by clicking here.

PS5: I have the perfect shoes to party!

  6. First off favorite shoes . . . the open toe :) Love the little bits of fresh summer decor and your tea pot is gorgeous. What I really noticed was your stone wall, that is magnificent, so much charm.
Have a happy day and keep smiling.

  10. So nice to have a little peek at your sweet little cottage! I love your sun room and I can see your cats adore it, too! Everything is so charming - the mantel, the tea set, the shoes....I wore similar shoes to my son's wedding last weekend. I hope you find a lovely dress. xo Karen

    1. Oh, how I wish it were a sunroom! It's barely a little protection for the front door (about 3 feet x 3 feet) that was traditional in Briton houses. It's about 70 years old I guess and it's leaking when it rains... I have a plan for it, of course!

  11. The silver shoes are lovely, but I may be prejudice as I have a pair just like them but flats. I cannot believe that you know people that are putting up fall decorations already. I refuse to believe that summer is ending! When do you go back to school?

  12. I watched with pleasure, beautiful interiors and full of charm porcelain

  14. I am so envious of your hydrangeas. I wish we could grow the big pink and blue ones here, but in a Zone 3 climate, it is quite a challenge. I'm thinking you could rock those Cinderella slipper shoes in anything. I love them and they look comfortable! The other ones are cute too so you should probably wear the most comfortable cuz if you go with just the umbrella, you will be running all night! Loving your summer decor Magali!

  15. perfect! ...and yes, Fall doesn't start until the end of September.

  16. Happy kitties... and the hydrangea are so beautiful on soft blue color.

  17. Love your not-so-sunny shoes. I would recommend a dress to go with your shoes and umbrella. :) Just, you know, because I'm a traditionalist like that. I think your summer decor is just great. I especially like the sand and seashells hanging by your sweet puss. My baby starts French school on Monday. I'm petrified for her. My older daughter did fine, so I should just take a deep breath and relax, but...I CAN'T!!!!

  18. Hi, your cottage and your cats are equally cute ! I prefer the summer shoes, only to keep the fall away :-) hopelfully until the end of October (this has happened before, you know!). Choose a summery dress in fresh cotton fabric, just to keep the summer spirit alive... Have fun! Marcy

  19. I like the white open scandal shoe, makes your already sexy legs look sexy! :Please wear a dress cause after all the day is all about the bride and we sure wouldn't want you to steal the show! Loving your cottage and so love your cats. It's not to late to share summer, since it's still summer until 9/21. I'm not giving it up till I have to.

  22. I'm not ready for fall yet either. It'll be about another month before I start decorating for fall. I love the closed silver shoes. And yes, please find a pretty dress for the wedding. :-)

  23. Fall? No. Not ready for it yet. Just because the kids are in school here doesn't mean summer is over. Not for me, at least. I love your summer decor, Magali, and I'm glad you shared it with us. Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers. The blue and white tea set and cups and saucers are lovely. Your stone wall is amazing. Ooh, I love that! Both shoe styles are nice. And yes, you should wear a dress. LOL Hugs, Nancy

  24. That blue pot was the first thing that caught my eye! Well, initially I got some fur in my eye from the kitties.... Our summer hasn't been hot at all this year (except this weekend!!)...so fall seems like it should be a long time from now!

  25. I love your little porch, lots of windows so the kitties can sun bathe. Lovely tea to relax and enjoy with you. Hmmm, I love both the shoes, perhaps wear one of each! ; D Patty/NS

  26. Summer seems to have by passed the northeast this year, but I'm not complying. It's been beautiful!

I like both shoes, but prefer the closed ones. They look super comfortable!

  27. My word your cats are just divine!! I love seeing sleeping cats, so cute and calming. Your summer decorations were lovely and I bet your autumn ones will be just as stunning. I am just starting to autumnise my home now (looking for acorns and conkers tomorrow!).

I think I prefer the closed shoes, especially now that the rain is coming and the chill in the air xx

  30. I just finished writing up a future post about my little guest room- and wrote the exact same thing - one at time please because it's so small LOL
Your mantel is beautiful and that stone wall is what dreams are made of - gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous !
I think if you're going to the wedding naked I'd wear the sandals - if you're going to put clothes on, those satin " slippers " are divine !!!

  31. I envy the front porch among other things. It is beyond perfect. Your seaside accents are lovely and welcoming and give readers a very accurate sense of cottage by the sea!

  32. Magali, I love your porch! The jars with sand and shells are perfect touches, but the best decor are the kitties! There is so much to enjoy in this post. I'll end with a vote for the silver shoes, since you are making me choose one, but I do like them both, and either one would go very well with your umbrella!

  33. Well I never decorated for summer OR autumn, it's just all stayed the same. Your living room is very pretty and how adorable are the cats. A neighbours cat has started to visit constantly and he's gorgeous but unfortunately I'm a bit allergic so start sneezing when he's here.
    I like both pairs !
