A Few Before-Afters from 2015
Living in a Cottage that's constantly under renovations means living with a lot of dust for a few months a year, at least. Today, I'm showing you the result of 2015's dust!
Let's begin with the official project of 2015, my dining nook. No, it's not finished as I thought it would be by now... But it's already evolved a lot, so I'm not too disappointed.
And there's a good reason why the dining nook isn't perfect yet. During the summer, I had all the roof insulation redone - or done rather. And while we were tearing everything up under the roof, I took the opportunity to create the two dormers I had dreamed about since I first met Cottage.
Of course, while this was done, I couldn't work in the dining nook that was used as the headquarters for this major remodel.
travaux.
But I couldn't be happier about the dormers and about the roof insulation. It's nearly weird not to "feel" the wind upstairs during our typically Breton winter wind storms... I had gotten used to it after five winters! I can even sleep now during those storms! And I can't stop looking at the new dormers from my garden and from the new dormers.
I have new projects for the new year, though I have decided I wish it's going to be a calmer year. I'll tell you what I want to work on in a next post.
See you soon,
A bientôt,
PS1: I'm sorry if I wish some of you a "happy new ear"... The "y" on my keyboard seem to be hungover after the holidays and I need to punch it real hard for it to work and sometimes, I forget...
How exciting! I love all your changes - all major in my book when the house is turned upside down like you've had it. I'd want to calm things down too. I bet you can't for warm weather this year and living in your cottage! Congrats!

I must confess that I enjoy a little time doing nothing major in the Cottage for now, even if most rooms are unpainted, I needed some time off from renovation!
DeleteLove all the changes! Seems like we are both in a constant state of renovation! It's the only way to get the look we want though isn't it? Hope the new year is treating you well!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, you should be VERY proud of yourself. Girl power!

DeleteThe work you have done so far is lovely. What a difference it makes to the little cottage. Some day I will find my way to Brittany. Happy New Year from western Canada.
ReplyDeleteDear Rose,
DeleteI do hope you'll be able to visit Brittany, it's a lovely place for sure! And I've always wanted to visit Western Canada... I've only been to the Eastern part for now ;)
Magali
ReplyDeleteWelcome back dearest Magali! I love a good collection of WOW before and after photos. Well done, and I can't wait to see Cottage in her spring collection wardrobe; I know you will have her ready!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! The cottage looks lovely!Looking forward to seeing your new adventures! AriadnefromGreece!

Magali,
ReplyDeleteYour cottage is transforming into a beautiful place. Your re love of the dining nook was beautiful. My favorite thing so far is you gave the cottage eyes with the dormers. Now it looks like your sweet cottage has a face with eyes. Love that.
Good luck as we venture into the new year. I know more beautiful re loves in the cottage will happen.
Kris
I know (from personal experience) how slow these projects move along. You've made so many beautiful changes, Magali! Happy New Year!
ReplyDelete~ Lin
Yes, it's slow, but I'm actually enjoying the transformation process! Have a great week!
Bonne semaine!
DeleteIt looks so beautiful. I especially love the salvaged piece above the doorway of the window paned door. It is wonderful that you were able to get rid of the drafts but get dormers. That so funny. It would be a good wish for a musician. I wrote my first post of "2015" took me most of the day or a day to notice a hint or two from comments. xoxo Su

DeleteA beautiful view in a warm bedroom, a good year it was in 2015. Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteYou're right I can't tire of the view from the bedroom! Have a nice week!
DeleteWow - your pictures are truly inspirational, Magali! Well done on all your hard work in 2015. As a fellow serial renovator, I know how hard it can be to stay motivated, especially when you finally get all the dust swept up & really feel loath to start a new 'mess'! Cottage is looking picture-perfect, and no doubt much more comfortable for you to live in. Fantastic job! Jenny in NZ x
ReplyDeleteI'm not motivated to start a new mess right now, but come spring, I'll say hello to dust again ;)
DeleteMagali
Love to see your dinning table, simple decoration!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteA very nice improvement on your dining room and the dormers are wonderful and must bring in such lovely light upstairs. It is always nice to look back and see such beautiful progress. It has been a pleasure to watch it unfold. x Karen
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. The dormers made a huge difference, especially in the East room that went from being unused to being the room I work in every day!
DeleteI have been following your progress with cottage and it has been wonderful to see all you got done. You got determination! Bravo! 2015 has been a great year for you and cottage and I look forward to see more about cottage. Wishing you a great year in 2016!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your 2016 will be filled with more remodeling projects!
ReplyDeleteSoon you'll get a phone call from Once Upon a Time, wanting to use your cottage for their set. It is coming along great, Magali. And happy new year.

ReplyDeleteNathalie
Love how the cottage is coming along. The dormers are a wonderful addition and I'm sure the insulation will be great in the winter. Looking forward to "Cottages" improvements in 2016.
ReplyDeleteYou've got the Midas touch Magali. Cottage is just about the sweetest house I've ever seen, and it can only get better with whatever you've got planned.
ReplyDelete(And I like my ears but I'll take a new one)
The cottage saw a lot of beautiful changes in 2015. Love the dormer windows!

ReplyDeleteYou have definitely made some great improvements Magali!! I love your dormers and am looking forward to a tour of your new found space. Your dining room is so peaceful and clean looking....how I long for that here amongst the dust....Happ New Year!!! (I think our Y's were at the same party) Just kidding. Happy New Year Magali! Looking forward to a wonderful 2016 with you and Cottage! Cheers.
ReplyDeleteCottage is so pleased about the new dormers and not hearing or feeling winters whispering breath!!! Best ~ Mickie
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for new insulation! Dormers are great.
ReplyDeleteBravoo!
ReplyDeleteMerci!
DeleteDear Magali,
ReplyDeletesorry for being so late, but: Happy New Year! You have done a great job, tender loving care did miracles for Cottage, to be shure. I really enjoyed the pictures. My project would have been a complete make-over of our bathromms, but as we needed a new central heating, there is no money left at the moment.
Never mind, as you prove, it is better to do thingsslowly.
Yours,
Sarah
I understand the need for down time, just taking a break from all the work. I still have interior trim and doors to paint, but it will just have to wait until spring. You've come a long way. I love the dormers. Perfect. You were wise to spend your money on those and the insulation. xo
ReplyDeleteSo much progress! Looking forward to your projects in the new "ear!"
