Kitchen Details 3
Many big transformations happened in the Cottage's kitchen lately: new backsplash, new kitchen hood... But sometimes, it's the details that make you feel like a room is finally done.
Like hanging a clock on the wall...
I had fallen in love with a white clock in a decoration shop some time ago... But it was a) a little expensive - b) something that had been mass made, meaning it could be hanging in more than thousand kitchens - c) mostly made of plastic.
Then I found this very sturdy, very French-made clock in an empty-your-attic sale. I asked the lady why she was selling it and she said she had just bought a more modern, white one. I didn't say anything and gave her the 5 euros she was asking for it.
It stayed a while in my dining-room, just to see if it was working well and then I decided it was time to have my dream white clock.
I used some left-over paint in All White by Farrow & Ball that I had from painting the window and trim in the kitchen.
Please focus on the clock rather than on the random cat food bags that didn't make it to the drawers... The picture was taken right before I went back to school and I bought a little too much cat food just in case I had no time to go the supermarket for a while!
I actually think it looks better than the store one I had fallen in love with.
Today is daylight saving time in France, so if you'll excuse me, I need to change the time on my gorgeous kitchen clock...
How do I reach the clock that is so high when I'm so short? Why, you have very interesting questions... I may step on a newly painted stool you still know nothing about!
See you soon, either to show you my new stool or my new cabinet or my new curtain...
PS: I'm linking to the following parties:
Really beautiful Magali, Your kitchen is perfect, and that clock was the detail that every kitchen should have
ReplyDeleteHugs from the South of Spain
Beautiful Magali and you now have a one of a kind clock. Please show your new curtain!
ReplyDeleteI think the new washing-machine curtain shows in the post where I shared my backsplash at the beginning of October... But a full post will be written some day ;)
DeleteYou made it look so lovely I am looking forward to seeing more of your new things!AriadnefromGreece!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ariadne!
DeleteSimply elegant! Like you :)
ReplyDeleteThank you... I've been gardening all afternoon in my old jeans, so it's nice to read that I'm elegant ;)
DeletePerfect..and so nice to recycle and make something even better.
(Quel boulot !)
ReplyDeleteThe perfect clock, classic looking. My goodness you have been busy! We are going into week 8 of the whole house reno and not 1 room is completed yet. It is almost laughable! I know your's took a long time too so enjoy adding the fun touches. Have a great week, Magali. xo Patty/NS
ReplyDeleteThe clock is beautiful but I love focusing on the cat food. You would find the same in my kitchen. I hope you put double stick tape on those beautiful pitchers posed above the archway. I wouldn't want you to lose them.
ReplyDeleteThe shelf was made to be wide enough for little creamers... But I do remove them every single time there's a little remodeling going on at the Cottage!
DeleteWhat a deal and it looks great. Yes, much better than a mass produced one.
ReplyDeleteYour home is so charming and your newly painted clock fits right in!
ReplyDeleteYou chose well - AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Now the clock is really personal and a 100% "you" ! Marcy
ReplyDeleteVery white and old? Yes, the clock is 100% me!!!
DeleteDear Magali,
ReplyDeleteyou make something very special and charming out of ...well everything you touch. If you have been gardening as well, I wish you a very pleasant and relaxing evening. I am soooo tired so I will save light and just watch the fire burning in the stove...
Hugs, Sarah
Bises. Babette
I like the clock and you did very well painting it. You are such a tease - Your kitchen is really looking terrific - great job!!!
ReplyDeleteMary
Cottage is looking so beautiful and your newly-painted clock just adds to it!

That was such a great deal. Magali. I just love when stuff like that happens. I think Cottage is very happy. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteGreat clock Magali! I love it in white! Is this the week you go back to school? I do hope you enjoyed your fall break and took time to enjoy life and all the pleasures it holds. Have a blessed week. I look forward to seeing your projects.
ReplyDeleteThings are looking wonderful! And I love the clock.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
You and the cottage should be very proud of yourselves.;......making so many great choices. I love the clock and like it white too! I can't wait to see more of what you've been up to!
ReplyDeleteWhat a find! Love it white and I love it in your gorgeous kitchen!!
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely. A wonderful addition to your charming kitchen, Magali. It's always fun to come here and see what new things you and Cottage are up to. ~ Nancy
ReplyDelete:) I like that that lady you bought your clock for is probably going for the too expensive plastic one. :) Smart choice on your part to save some money and get a nicely made one instead. That clock adds just the right touch up there. And boo to Daylight Savings. :( Frowny Face. We are trying to abolish daylight savings here in Utah. Hopefully for us, 2015 is the year of not having to change my clocks twice a year. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteInspiring! Thanks
ReplyDeleteYou are right, sometimes it is the details that helps a project look even better! Great redo!
DeleteI do believe these are the prettiest photos yet of the kitchen. The clock fits so nicely in the space.
ReplyDeleteI love your 'new' clock - it looks so pretty in your charming kitchen! I love your collection of sugar bowls and creamers and your pretty pine furniture. Your stove hood came out very nice, too. Everything is coming together so beautifully! xo Karen
ReplyDeleteThank you! The creamers and sugar bowls have actually changed to fall coloured one, but I coudn't get a good picture as they are up and the light isn't as good lately...
DeleteI really like it! That's what I would have done. xoxo
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Very resourceful. It looks awesome :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it true that hanging a simple clock can make all the difference in our day! It is lovely and I love that you painted it and bought it second hand. More special that way :) Thanks for sharing this week on the Art of Home-Making Mondays! I always enjoy your Seaside World.
ReplyDeleteMagali, the clock is a feature tonight on Make It Monday. Come on over and grab a feature button.
ReplyDeleteYou always make me smile when I'm reading your posts, Magali! The clock looks much better in white than black, and looks just right where you hung it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got the clock of your dreams!
ReplyDeletePerfect, everything looks so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, can't believe it cost just €5!
