Back In Time

Kitchen Details 3

Many big transformations happened in the Cottage's kitchen lately: new backsplash, new kitchen hood... But sometimes, it's the details that make you feel like a room is finally done.

Like hanging a clock on the wall...

I had fallen in love with a white clock in a decoration shop some time ago... But it was a) a little expensive - b) something that had been mass made, meaning it could be hanging in more than thousand kitchens - c) mostly made of plastic.

Then I found this very sturdy, very French-made clock in an empty-your-attic sale. I asked the lady why she was selling it and she said she had just bought a more modern, white one. I didn't say anything and gave her the 5 euros she was asking for it.

It stayed a while in my dining-room, just to see if it was working well and then I decided it was time to have my dream white clock.

I used some left-over paint in All White by Farrow & Ball that I had from painting the window and trim in the kitchen.

Please focus on the clock rather than on the random cat food bags that didn't make it to the drawers... The picture was taken right before I went back to school and I bought a little too much cat food just in case I had no time to go the supermarket for a while!

I actually think it looks better than the store one I had fallen in love with.

Today is daylight saving time in France, so if you'll excuse me, I need to change the time on my gorgeous kitchen clock...

How do I reach the clock that is so high when I'm so short? Why, you have very interesting questions... I may step on a newly painted stool you still know nothing about!

See you soon, either to show you my new stool or my new cabinet or my new curtain...

  9. The clock is beautiful but I love focusing on the cat food. You would find the same in my kitchen. I hope you put double stick tape on those beautiful pitchers posed above the archway. I wouldn't want you to lose them.

    1. The shelf was made to be wide enough for little creamers... But I do remove them every single time there's a little remodeling going on at the Cottage!

  13. Dear Magali,
you make something very special and charming out of ...well everything you touch. If you have been gardening as well, I wish you a very pleasant and relaxing evening. I am soooo tired so I will save light and just watch the fire burning in the stove...
    Hugs, Sarah

  23. :) I like that that lady you bought your clock for is probably going for the too expensive plastic one. :) Smart choice on your part to save some money and get a nicely made one instead. That clock adds just the right touch up there. And boo to Daylight Savings. :( Frowny Face. We are trying to abolish daylight savings here in Utah. Hopefully for us, 2015 is the year of not having to change my clocks twice a year. Fingers crossed!
