End-Of-Summer Burger "Recipe"
What a week it's been! It included witnessing a car accident and being so shaken about it that I couldn't explain the guy who picked up when I called 112 (same as 911) where I was - all I could think of was "on the road". It also included a parent conference evening at school that lasted till 8:30 pm and two very emotional staff meetings about a pupil that has serious problems...
Quelle semaine! J'ai été témoin d'un accident de la route et j'étais tellement choquée que je n'arrivais pas à dire au pompier que j'avais au téléphone où cela s'était produit, tout ce qui me venait à l'esprit, c'était "sur la route". J'en profite pour le féliciter pour son professionnalisme et le calme avec lequel il m'a parlé. Il y a aussi eu une soirée de rencontre parents-professeurs qui n'en finissait pas et deux réunions très éprouvantes émotionnellement pour l'un de mes élèves...
Yesterday evening, I came back home feeling exhausted and having absolutely no energy to cook proper food...
Hier soir, j'étais tellement vidée que l'idée de préparer un vrai repas ne m'emballait pas...
So I'm going to share with you a very easy but delicious burger recipe. It's so easy it's barely a recipe.
Je vais donc partager avec vous ma "presque recette" de burger très facile à faire même si l'on est fatiguée.
What you need:
- Individual breads,
- olive oil,
- garlic,
- pesto,
- chicken breasts,
- zucchini/courgette,
- eggplant,
- red pepper,
- cherry tomatoes.
Ce dont vous avez besoin:
- des petits pains individuels,
- de l'huile d'olive,
- une gousse d'ail,
- du pesto (pas maison, ce soir-là!)
- des blancs de poulet,
- une courgette,
- une aubergine,
- un poivron rouge,
- des tomates cerises.
What you have to do:
- In a small bowl, pour some olive oil and add small pieces of garlic in it. Stir.
- Cut the egg plant in slices, dip them in the garlic oil and lay them in a pan lined with baking paper.
- Do the same with the red pepper and the chicken.
- Put the pan in the oven (I heat mine at 180°C or 350°F).
- Ten minutes later, do the same with the zucchini (it cooks faster than the eggplant).
- Twenty minutes later (meanhile, pour yourself a drink - it's also in the pictures!), add the bread, cut in half) in the oven.
- Make the burger in that order: spread some pesto in the bread, add a slice or two of zucchini, a slice or two of eggplant, half a chicken breast, the top of the bread.
- Serve with the grilled pepper and cherry tomatoes.
Ce qu'il faut faire:
- Dans un petit ravier, verser de l'huile d'olive et y ajouter une gousse d'ail en petits morceaux.
- Couper l'aubergine en rondelles, les tremper dans l'huile rapidement et les déposer dans un plat à gratin recouvert de papier cuisson.
- Faire de même avec le poivron rouge et le poulet.
- Mettre au four à 200°C.
- Dix minutes plus tard, ajouter les rondelles de courgette (cela cuit un peu plus vite).
- Vingt minutes après (pendant ce temps, se préparer un apéro), ajouter le pain, coupé en deux.
- Dresser le burger: étaler une fine couche de pesto sur le pain, déposer une ou deux rondelles de courgette, puis d'aubergine, la moitié d'un blanc de poulet, la deuxième moitié du pain.
- Servir avec les poivrons grillés et des tomates cerises.
Of course, this must be eaten in front of the TV, watching something very intellectual and wearing sweat pants. (Something is wrong in the previous sentence - can you find it?)
Bien sûr, c'est le genre de choses qu'il faut manger devant la télé, allumée sur un programme intellectuel, et en jogging... Quelque chose est faux dans la phrase précédente... Saurez-vous le retrouver?

PS1: About the car accident I witnessed, the mother and her two children in the involved car had nothing but bruises and a sore body even tough the car ended up on its roof.
PS1: Je tiens à vous rassurer: la maman et ses deux enfants qui étaient dans la voiture que j'ai vu se retourner sur le toit n'ont rien eu d'autres que des bleus, des contusions et une grosse frayeur.
Your burger night recipe sounds very good. I never though of egg plant on the sandwich, but it does sound good. So sorry that you had a terrible day. Relax, put your feel up and have a glass of wine and do not watch cartoons LOL.

I commend you on having the presence of mind and the creativity to write such a cool post about your comfort meal. Usually comfort foods are not healthy but this is burger and vegetable combination is so lovely in all ways! I will bookmark this post so that I can try this dinner soon!
ReplyDeleteFrom my own experience, witnessing an accident is the next awful thing after actually being in the accident: both give skyhigh stress levels! Besides, when you see it happen, it often takes longer for you to know if they were all right (where the victims instantly know themselves...) Glad to hear that the family involved in the accident were okay. SO very scary. My new favorite burgers are quinoa burgers, but I love fried eggplant burgers too. I am always on the lookout for new burgers as I don't eat beef. These sound wonderful. xo Laura

ReplyDeleteWe had a very bad accident just a few blocks from home a few weeks ago. it was traumatic because it was so close. You hamburger looks ever so good, but the only vegetable I don't like is eggplant! So I'd put a nice big portabello mushroom on top! Comfort foods are a good thing, it encloses us with a "safe and comforting" feeling.

Tough to deal with student issues, also...and perhaps demanding parents...but I think your healthy meal helped to calm your nerves and give you strength to face another day.
