Loguivy-de-la-Mer

Wandering Around The Cottage - October 2014 Edition

I've been working a lot lately, both for school and for Cottage. I'd love to show you everything... But I need to clean the house before taking pictures and then I need to edit them. And I'm just not in the mood for cleaning today. Are you? Then, go off the computer and do some cleaning. If you feel as uninspired by housework as I am, please join me for a nice walk around the lovely village of Loguivy-de-la-Mer.

Let's park the car on the parking lot in front of that lovely little church, shall we?

Garons-nous devant cette petite église, d'accord?

Now, if you're new here, you might have no idea where we are. I live in Brittany, which is the western peninsula France has. The village of Loguivy-de-la-Mer is under the bue push-pin on the map below.

If I chose to walk there with you today, it's because this adorable harbour is on the sea and also on the mouth of the river Trieux, which makes for breathtaking views.

Let's start with a tiny little bit of history. The North coast of Brittany played a very important role during World War II because it is facing England. A rock pays hommage to those who died or were injured on the coast of Loguivy-de-la-Mer and to the fishermen who helped the injured.

Fishermen in this village are known for fishing Breton lobsters, the blue lobsters.

If you have a look at the pictures above and at the colour of the rocks, you'll see we're back on what we call the "Pink Coast" in Brittany where I've already taken you a few times. This part of the coast is dotted with dreamlike islands.

Who wants to have their own private island?

As we are leaving the sea to follow the river Trieux, we are entering a wood.

Can you hear a little crackling noise above us?

I know, depending on where you live, seeing a squirrel might be very common, but in France, they are very difficult to spot because they are very shy.

Now what was Mr Squirrel admiring from the top of his tree? This amazing view.

Now let's go up, back to the village.

One last look at the river from the top of the stairs.

The place is such a beautiful one and a convenient one for fishing that it was populated for a very long time. There's a gallery grave that dates back from 3000 BC.

As we head back to the car, we can admire charming gates - I wish I had one as pretty as this one - and adorable chapels.

I hope you enjoyed that little tour. We are back to the harbour where we parked our car. It's low tide and it's also time to go back to Cottage... Some papers need to be marked and some paint brushes want to be used!

See you soon for news about the new project!

A bientôt! Je vous parlerai des nouveaux projets!

PS1: Autumn finally arrived yesterday in Brittany. It rained all day... The pictures for this post where taken earlier, in August.

  1. Magali, thank you for a lovely tour of the beautiful region.
With us today as autumn, the trees beautiful golden leaves but the temperature high. Weather on the walk:-)
Unfortunately, I sit in my work, in my social center.
Ah, I'd choose over the sea:-)
    Best wishes!

  2. Such a lovely coastline. Brittany is in many ways similar to Cornwall particularly around the coast.

  5. Squirrels around here are NOT shy. Your little red squirrels are cute. You live in such a beautiful place. It is so tranquil that it is hard to imagine the horror that happened there during World War II.

  9. So beautiful! I love that church!!! Some day you must come and visit me and then you can watch the conversations the squirrels have with my cats - or rather, the telling off that goes on! The squirrels in my back yard are always in plain view.

  12. Thank you for the guided tour of your 'habitat" :-) My conclusion is that you live in a very lovely little corner of the world !! Some 20 years ago I visited Brittany on a cultural occasion (a folcloristic dance and music festival in Rennes) and we visited lovely places in the area. I think it is time to go for a new visit !! 15. Beautiful! I needed a little virtual vacation...:) Those private islands are amazing.....can you imagine? Your squirrels are colored differently than ours, and ours are not shy at all....lol! Quite the opposite...:) It seems that we teachers never get caught up on all we have to do. I am taking Friday off for a mental health day....just to take care of some things at home and not worry about work for a day! Have a lovely week...Vicky

  16. I want my own Island, I want my own island...but then I'd have to be there alone all the time with Mr. C. Haaaa, let me rethink that! Another thing, I'd be more than happy to send to France all my NOT SO SHY squirrel who wreck havoc on my garden!!!! I'll even pay for shipping and shots,,,what do you say? I don't like housework either...so I'd rather play too.. Everything is so beautiful where you live...I'd be out all the time!!!

  19. Seeing these pictures was the equivalent of a long, hot bubble bath Magali. Such lovely homes in even lovelier surroundings. I don't think that beautifully aged blue door could possibly be more inviting.

Thanks for the mini vacation! I needed that.

  24. Do you think I can convince the husband to let me paint my front door the same color as that gate? Just gorgeous! I am going to start saving all my money so I can buy one of those little islands and then my girls French education will come in VERY handy.

  30. Hmm, well I thought I had commented on this post, Magali, but don't see that I have. Not improbable that I started to and then got distracted. My mind is everywhere and nowhere these days. Anyway, I enjoyed this tour and thought how many scenes there are that Dennis would enjoy painting. I want the blue gate and the pink roses. Yes, I do. xxx ~ Nancy

  32. Thanks for the lovely tour. I've never seen a red squirrel but my dog and I see loads of grey ones on our walks as we visit three small parks, where he tries to launch himself at the trees, so that he can join the squirrels on the higher branches !
