Welcome To Storybrooke

Watching TV With Magali (And Possibly Some Cats) - February 2015 - 2

Ready for some more sets from Once Upon A Time? I think this one can inspire many of you, whether you watch the show or not.

Today, Snow is opening her door for you.

You might be disappointed but in the show, Snow White doesn't live in a Cottage: she lives in a vintage-shabby-industrial loft.

It's a very open concept. Let's see more about that kitchen past the very shabby island, shall we?

Snow doesn't have a fitted kitchen: let's have a closer look.

Old stove and vintage looking sink that Snow seems to have stolen from my Cottage.

I like that vintage hutch between her stove and her fridge and I adore the fact that it looks rather messy and lived in, something you'd never see in a magazine.

Have you seen the lovely glass doors on that hutch? And exactly how many tea towels does Snow need?

I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one who irons her clothes right before going to work.

Do you see that shabby shelf Snow uses as a pantry? It does remind me a lot of my days before the kitchen was remodeled.

In front of the kitchen area is a little dining area with a nice brick wall and an adorable old table that gets painted somewhere between season 1 and 2. Hey, Snow, I also want to paint my table, could you lend a hand here?

What I love most is the fact that the chairs aren't matching. Again, they tend to change from season to season, as the decoration on the shelves againts the brick wall.

The living-room area is just over by the window where the brick is painted white.

Many of you noticed the vintage globe in Mr Gold's shop in my previous post: there's an other one in Snow's sitting area (there's always one, it's just not always the same and they thought no one would notice - but, hey, I'm there).

I'm in love with the aqua phone she had (you might notice in some other screencaps I made that it changes to a black one in season 2) and did you notice that there's a little Bambi statue on the side table by the sofa?

I have no idea what's behind those frosty glass doors and it's killing me. Maybe the bathroom? For a while, I thought it was Snow's bedroom, but it's on the other side of the loft.

On the other side is Snow's bedroom with only white curtains for privacy, which is not a lot of privacy when you think of it. Snow's bedroom is the funniest room for someone as crazy as me, because there's something changing in it in every episode. I just took a few screencaps to show you the bedside table playing musical chairs!

Emma could you please not put your boots on the bedspread?

Of course, Snow has the same issues as us: when she moves a bedside table, she also changes the lamps... She also has a couple issues we don't have, like escaping an Evil Queen and eating poisonous apples.

Painted chest and oops! the bedside lamp changed again!

A painted wardrobe and a couple of old frames I'd like to take!

You may have noticed some very industrial looking stairs in some shots. From what I get, they lead to Emma's bedroom, but we don't see it on the show. I wonder if we should create a Twitter #showusemmasbedroom... Because what else can we expect from the second part of season 4?

I think that this set, though interesting, is not perfect for the character's personality, which is very "nice and clean" on the show. Would you live there?

See you soon,

A bientôt,

PS/Update: I've had many questions about some other sets of Once Upon A Time, so I thought you might be interested in my OUAT set Pinterest board here.

  1. I like the weathered wood/brick loft. Wouldn't that be fun! I think I've liked lofts ever since watching Gwyneth Paltrow in A Perfect Murder.

  2. Oh yes, I love this. I could just toss aside my home and move right in. I get these urges for a complete change in my home now that our kids are more or less on their way. :)

  3. Oh yes I love it too. I mean there's tweaking to be done but I like the weathered look. I also love the open floor plan without being to overwhelmingly large. One thing I don't like is the staircase and seems out of place. I love the photo with the door open and we're able to look in side. I love that look, so charming, and as you know I love charm!

  4. I love the doors and some of the furniture and I am a big fan of brick walls, but this space is a little too rustic for my liking... I would have loved this when I was in college!

  5. I would love a loft apartment, but instead I have a little yellow cottage. I have never seen this show. Is it only in France?

  6. Such a cool loft! I have always loved that look....especially exposed brick. I have never watched this show, but it sounds good. Have a great week! I was off today for President's Day and am back to work tomorrow. Sprink Break is just a few weeks away though. :)

  8. I love that you notice little details like telephones changing from season to season. Thanks for the tour and for making me notice things I never really stopped to look at.

  9. I think this loft is great. I like the brick wall and the wonderful pieces of furniture like the white wardrobe and the table with mismatched chairs. However, I would definitely need less clutter and a more organized space ~ it would drive me crazy the way it is! This was a really fun post, Magali!

  12. Yes, I would live there in a heartbeat! So much personality, but I would have to change the sofa, I would need one bigger and softer, so the kitties and dogs and I could curl up together. Wishing you a wonderful week, Magali. We have lots of snow on the ground and more expected. xo Patty

  13. Oh yes! I would live there. I we all enjoy looking at the sets of our favorite movies or television series. I can see why you like this set with so many things that would make cottage very happy, and her lady! I'm mad for Downton Abbey now, wardrobe and the house.
    Hugs........

  14. Magali, you sure do have a eye for detail, when I saw Emma's boots on the bed it made me want to tell her to GET THEM OFF! LOL I was disappointed in the place that they carved out for Snow on the show, it needs to be more cottage but now she is married you can tell a guy lives there. Have great day! Jo

  15. You know I would live in this place! But, if I lived here there would be no room for Emma to live upstairs, because it would be crammed with stuff and Emma would have to sleep on that tiny little couch in the living room area. I like the fact that Snow/Mary Margaret lives here, because it makes her character more layered and interesting. If she lived in a place that was too tidy and sterile, she wouldn't be as complex and interesting. After all, she is a girl who lived in the forest and robbed people to get money and trade with trolls, right? She has unexpected aspects to her character.
PS-you know my favorite set is the one guest room at Grandmas Bed and Breakfast where Emma stayed in episode one, and Emma put her boots on the bedspread in that room too. Naughty Emma.

  16. PPS-What I wonder is where does Mary Margaret keep her clothes? I mean, girl has a lot of clothes, and somehow she keeps them all in that one little wardrobe, including all those great coats? This is the kind of magic I could definitely use!

  17. Oh yes, I would live there in a heartbeat. I have loved that set from the beginning. I think it fits Snow in that she is creative is used to adaptingfurniture fom her dwarve days. Maybe they should do an episode on how and why she decorated her loft. I lovethe little things they throw in, like the Bambi figurine.

  18. I just pinned a kitchen yesterday that had a great big island looking out onto a larger room. I love the space, and yes I could live there too with a few changes.
It definitely needs a much bigger and cosier sofa (in my humble opinion) and it's a little bit too shabby, even for me, I would need to paint some things just flat white !
I feel I'm missing out because I've really never heard of this show..........

  19. Oh I feel like watching this series again! AND I just had my hair cut exactly like Snow's! My hair is still that black so I'm enjoying it! Have a super evening, Magali! Anita

  21. I've never heard of a vintage-shabby industrial loft until now, but it is an interesting space. You made me laugh out loud with Snow's issues of escaping an evil queen and eating poisonous apples!! I hope someone from the show reads your posts about it - they just may have to hire you to help with set design!

Babette

    1. Oh, a sun room would be great behind those doors! But then where is the bathroom? Maybe fairy tale characters don't need to pee!

  24. You are a hoot! I never would have noticed all those changes, but I'd love to live there as long as they left all the vintage furniture and cupboards in the kitchen. Thanks for sharing, Magali!

  25. Oh how funny. I would have never noticed the changing lamps or the globe etc. Good eye for detail.
    And yeah I wouldn't mind living there. It's rustic/vintage.

Thanks for sharing the tour of the set. ;o)

  26. That's the EXACT, creamy white, shabby chic, farmhouse hutch I wanted for my breakfast area! What I ended up with is the apple green credenza, currently featured on my header, which of course, I also love.

I can see many similarities between Snow's place and yours, especially the sink and stove and some smaller cabinets.

    Have a lovely day, Magali!

  27. Lofts always look so interesting, but when I think about actually living in one I don't see it. I think I just am too much of a cozy cottage person. Large spaces just seem to cold for me.

  29. Coucou Magali,
