Masterchef (Or Not)

One Year Of... Recipes A La Magali

Time to confess the truth... I may have been a little too ambitious when I started the blog. I thought posting a recipe a month would be easy. But with the renovation going on and the fact that I have a job, it turned out to be impossible. I do cook, but I don't have time to take pictures of what I do and when I have, I don't have the time to write the post. I'll try to do better in 2014, but I'm not promising anything.

Still, here are the recipes I shared in 2013, just in case your missed them. Scroll down if you've already seen them all... Because I'll reveal my word of the year after that little recap (and, no it won't be totally off topic).

I've been reading blogs for a long time and I know it's customary to have a "word" of the year. I'm quite the anti-conformist, as you may have noticed, but I like this idea. I thought about it during the 6 hour long trip from my grandma's to my parents' and the best word for 2014 appeared to be

SAVOUR

SAVOURER

I chose it because this year, the project for my cottage is to work on the kitchen and I hope to "savour" the fact that at some point I'll have a real kitchen and I also hope to "savour" everything I'll be cooking in it. But I also intend to "savour" every little thing life has to offer, like walking on the beach (when the storms are over). I also made a promise to my parents to put some weight on, which might seem weird to some of you, but I agree with them, it's compulsory!

Just a little reminder on where I cook... Yes, that little oven bakes all my cookies!

Transforming this space is my project for 2014 (notice I say "transforming" not finishing!). News about that very soon!

Transformer cette pièce est mon projet 2014... Des nouvelles très bientôt!

  1. Savour is a good word. I don't choose special words, I just hope and pray for a better year with good health.
I do like your chicken pie recipe!

  2. What a wonderful word! It would take me all year to choose a word, because I would start thinking every time that I chose one that I could think of a better one! I do so love words. I do love to eat, also, and only once in my life has anyone told me that I need to gain weight. I hope that your 2014 is a year of enriching experiences - enjoy, my friend across the ocean!

  3. I like the word savour! It is a delightful word which may be applied to so many things. Your chicken pie looks wonderful and I always swoon when I see Rose Chintz china. Hope 2014 brings you lots of joy, Magali!

  4. Wonderful word for 2014, Magali. And I really like the way you intend to savour all of life. Perfect! My late husband used to make a chicken pie with puff pastry that looked very much like yours. Oh, it was so delicious. I have to say, though, that your dishware and china distracted me, and I had to go back and look at your recipes a second time. Looking forward to savouring what you'll be sharing in 2014. :)

  6. A very good word! I missed a couple of your recipes, which I have now pinned. The chocolate treats look dangerously good, and I like the sound of the Tea Brack. Tonight would be a good night for that Chicken Pie -- it's so cold here, and it would be the perfect comfort food. I am excited to see how your kitchen progesses!

  7. Your recipes/food look great, but I couldn't keep my eyes off your dishes, since I'm a dish girl! Loving you kitchen and awards to you for cooking in that little oven. Hope the new "transform" one will be able to provide you a much bigger oven so you can "savour" cooking once again!

    1. A bigger oven is on my wishlist for the new kitchen. But now it seems very difficult to find one I like in my price range!

  8. I love your word! Your sentiments are true. I agree with Cathy on the dishes! I have an obsession with bowls.

I haven't even addressed the new year.

We have a toaster oven too, and we love it! In my opinion it was more handsome than a microwave and used more, so since I didn't have room for both it stayed in the kitchen. The microwave is in the laundry room, because for the occasional defrost or baked potato. Everyone is different and I know it would not work for most.

I'm really looking forward to your kitchen remodel!

  13. I love the French word, Gateau, by the way. I especially love your china, which looks to me like, Rose Chintz. Am I right? I saw some salad plates yesterday at an estate sale. I didn't buy them, but after looking at your gorgeous photos I want to go back. Your photos are always so lovely as is your blog. Thank you for the visual delights!

  14. I love posts like this, several recipes all in one. I will give your banana bread a try, my kids and I love banana bread - I will make them a few loafs, tell them a friend from France gave me the recipe....really impress them! May give the raisin bread a try as well. I like your word for 2014....savour. It is a very inspirational word, a humble word. Happy New Year my friend! Hugs, Diane

  15. Hi Magali! I, too, like your special word--savour is exactly what I hope to do as I make my way through the everyday of my life--enjoy it as it comes. Your recipes all look delicious--my husband would enjoy the chicken pie, so I will have to give that a try soon. Best wishes on gaining a few pounds--I wish I had your problem:) I'm always trying to lose a few pounds.

  23. Savour is a great word, sometimes we need to just stand still and savour things. I can never seem to fix on a word, but a friend was talking about 'shed', for shedding stuff, shedding pounds and even because she needed a new shed.
I definitely need to shed some pounds and if I tried your yummy looking recipes the situation would get even worse !
