Falling Asleep

Watching TV With Magali (And Possibly Some Cats) - July Edition

You're probably thinking that nothing is happening at the Cottage right now and you're wrong. I've never been so busy as I've been since Thursday, official first day of my summer holidays. But it includes a lot of planning and some furniture ending up in the middle of the rooms, so it's not really picture worthy.

After a day of stepping up and down the ladder a thousand times, I just want to collapse on the sofa. Why oh why did I store all the dining-room drawers on the sofa and why did I think it was a good idea to put all the china that is usually in the dining-room in front of the TV making it impossible to get to the TV switch? It's so difficult to be blonde sometimes...

Anyway, all this led me to begin watching a TV show online. I chose Witches Of East End for three reasons: it has "witches" in its title, it stars Julia Ormond and Jenna Dewan Tatum plays in it.

Now, confession: I'm so tired that I fall asleep in front of the episode every evening... I still haven't understood one single story line... But I've noticed the gorgeous set, and mainly the gorgeous kitchen, used in the pilot.

Pilots are usually shot in a real house and a set is only built if the show gets picked up by a network. Most of the time, when I feature a TV show I ignore the pilot. But this time, I just couldn't: it's the only thing I remember from the pilot... No, seriously, that kitchen is too gorgeous to be ignored...

I love the creamy  cabinets, the grey countertop and the upper glass cabinets. The stove in its little nook is absolutely perfect, especially with all the copper pots hanging above. But my favourite thing is how the fridge is hidden in a beadboard cabinet tucked under the stairs. I had a hard time finding good pictures of it because the actresses tend to be in front of it! Like we care abut them!

Look! Behind Ingrid and her mother... THE fridge!

The mother paints and her art studio is actually in the kitchen... She probably isn't as messy as I am when she paints. And how many layers of curtains can a window have?

I love the wooden table in the eat-in kitchen and the fact that the chairs are mismatched. The white wicker chair also caught my eye.

Now is it only me or does that kitchen remind you of an other kitchen I featured here? Maybe the set designer noticed it as well, because the set changes a lot after the pilot... That's what you'll see as soon as I gather the energy to write a new post!

So what inspires you in this kitchen?

See you soon for an other inspiring kitchen!

PS1: Right now, the Little White House looks like that... Not TV show like, I'm afraid!

PS2: I know Jenna Dewan Tatum must be pissed of when people always reminds her of her work as a young dancer... But it's highly unlikely that she reads my blog, so just in case you like dancers, have a look at what I always see in my head whenever she plays in something...

I still don't know how she can do that brisé (or aile-de-pigeon, I'm not sure here) with those heels!
I'm secretely hoping than none of my readers are my colleagues who are so going to tease me of they know I like a teen movie like that one!

PS3: I'm probably the only blogger praying that she doesn't have too many readers...

PS4: I'm partying with the witches and some great bloggers...

    1. And the best thing is that to see this kitchen you only have to watch the first episode! I guess I need to get to work now or I'll have nothing to show!

  2. Your kitchen is just as nice.
I don't like anything to do with witches (or occult) so its not a programme I would watch.....but the kitchen is pretty.

Bises. Babette

  6. What a cute place! Too bad you couldn't get a clear picture of the fridge (silly girls in the way), it's a genius place for one!

    1. This fridge disappears in the other episodes so I couldn't get a better picture! But I keep the idea in mind!

  8. Oh Magali, I'm so pleased to see you watching this show! I just found it myself about a week ago on my own computer, and have been in awe of the entire house. No idea what the women in it are doing, though I did note they are wearing some great outfits, but the house!! The HOUSE!!! Have you noticed that the accent color on the porch matches the wall color in some of the interior? That lovely mossy/sea green color that I love so much!! The art everywhere! The antique home with the modern touches! The garden! The KITCHEN!! Sometimes I have paused to wonder how a single mom who teaches art for a living can afford such a perfect estate, but then I snort to myself because after all she's a witch! She can just brew up some extra money in the basement when something needs to be done, right? Or just magic it done! No climbing up and down the ladder a million times in a day for her, right?
    Sigh.
Anyway, great house! Have loved your other posts too, by the way, love "Just Paint it White" and "Design Dreams by Anne", have been following them for a while but not familiar with the first one so thanks for mentioning it, I look forward to reading it as well! As you know I've had trouble with my email, so haven't been posting comments, but I'm out here reading and appreciating all the same!! And also, so very happy you are going to be teaching in two schools you love next year!! So happy for you! Congratulations! Can't wait to see what you are working on in the dining room and how the kitchen looks now, happy summer break to you and cats!

  9. I prefer to see your wee kitchen and the rest of your wee house. I am attracted to small spaces, especially one that has been so thoughtfully renovated. I find that I am turned off of big, ostentatious spaces that belong in a hotel kitchen-pretentious comes to mind. words like: simplicity, minimalism, wabi sabi...

    1. I don't really like big spaces either, because they are so different from my Cottage. But there's always some inspiration to gather in those huge TV set and they are where most of my ideas for my own Cottage come from! I'll be showing the Cottage again soon.

  10. That kitchen just needs a bit more white lol, but it's a great space, and I love the glazed units and especially the window seat. It's the outside I find completely gorgeous, with the massive porch, balcony and all the wooden details (this kind of house just doesn't exist in the UK).
I can't believe you've thrown yourself into decorating, I thought maybe you'd take a few days off !
As always though, waiting in anticipation x

  12. I love how you watch tv shows for the sets! Love the kitchen, but I don't like the drapes -- too much!

  13. What inspires me in this kitchen? women! Yesterday I finished the first season of Devious Maids and then there was this spot about Witches from East End. Those ladies look sooo good. Maybe not my style (those diva-curls and fit jeans), but I'm under their charm.

  14. I have been away from blogging for two months and am slowly catching up. I like large kitchens, any kitchens as mine is not very large. Our daughter is moving back to Atlanta and just rented a townhome – we visited it yesterday. Of course it was full of boxes but the kitchen is open to a large living area with a 2 story high ceiling … I would love that. I am also thinking about painting all our kitchen cabinets white, instead of the expensive replacement of them. But first we need to call an electrician as the electric sockets stopped working. Our house was built in 1973 but for the US this is old and everything is starting to stop working. I like the mismatched chairs you showed us. I think it is a good idea to look at the décor in many TV shows rather than to follow the plot …

  15. I do love how that stove is in the nook! Very pretty kitchen indeed! Good luck with all the things going on in your cottage, in the end, I know it will be worth all the mess now! :-)

  17. What a beautiful kitchen. I have never heard of the show but I love Julia Ormond. I am not sure if I like the white or grey kitchen best?

  18. She has this huge house and paints in the kitchen? Hah! She must be a lot neater than my hubby, Magali. Thanks for the video of the dance segment. I just love watching dancers and these young people certainly are talented.

  19. You've mentioned you havent understood the show? I started watching the show and i love it. Its basically about these 4 witches. (a mom with 2 daughters...and also the mom has a sister ) . they are all witches . they were exiled from another realm dimension so they came to human dimension. But they were cursed for leaving. The mom is cursed for having an immortal life. The mom's curse is that the 2 daughters keep dying around age 30'ish ..(if one daughter dies..the other dies too ). And the daughters are constantly reborn again and again and again. The mom's sister is also immortal ( well she has 9 lives like a cat..she can actually turn into a cat too ), but now she has died 9 lives..she is on her last life. The main stories are about them fighting other witches who have come from the same realm....and also the portal to the realm keeps opening so they fight those things too.

    1. Thank you so much for the explanations! I actually took the time recently to rewatch the episodes when I wasn't too tired and so now, I know exactly what's happening... up until episode 2.08 that I haven't watched yet!
