Let It Go

Watching TV With Magali (And Possibly Some Cats) - July Edition

Since my summer holidays began, I've been trying to work on the Cottage a lot. This included several trip to different stores in a non-air-conditioned car in the heat wave we have these days (a Brittany heat wave, nothing inbearable, except in the car), a lot of furniture emptying and moving, long hours spent painting up on the ladder and down on my knees, some swearing and a Cottage that is a total mess. But I was happy with the way things were progressing.

Then yesterday, I woke up at 4 o'clock in the morning and my body was so sore I couldn't move in my bed... So I decided to let it go, take a day off, enjoying iced tea in the garden.

It does mean I have nothing to show you from the Cottage, but I have some inspiration for you!

Do you remember the creamy white kitchen with grey subway tiles I showed you in my last post from the Witches of East End Pilot? It gets transformed in a grey kitchen with a marble backsplash in the next episodes!

Many of your comments tell me that TV show kitchens are a lot bigger than my Cottage kitchen. It's right, but I still find inspiration in details. For example, I love the wood counter, the beadboard backsplash and the plate rack in this kitchen, three things that can be done in a smaller kitchen. I also love the vintage milk can.

J'adore.

Sometimes also, it's the show designer that gets inspired by me. I'm telling you! Look at the sheer curtains in the breakfast nook! Don't they remind you of my own curtains? Do you think I can sue (or sew) him?

The kitchen has a gorgeous fireplace. Now, that's something not anyone can have in a kitchen, but adding copper accents, like the ones on the mantel here, is easy to do.

Inspiration can work both ways. It tells you what you love and what you don't! I loved the beadboard fridge in the pilot of the series, but clearly I don't care for the huge green one they have in the grey kitchen.

There are a thousand more things I'd like to show you about that kitchen, but my plinths/baseboards and my paint brushes are calling my name, so I'll just give you a few pictures of the sideboard that caght my eye.  The starfish lamp is also cute...

Maybe I'll extand my male audience thanks to the above picture... Now if you manage to watch beyond the half naked witch, you'll see that the trashcans are next to the sideboard... That's how you know I didn't design this kitchen. I would never have let THAT happen!

I hope you found some inspiration here today. I'm off to paint something!

See you soon,

A bientôt,

PS1: I don't have children and my pupils are teenagers, so I have no idea  most of the time of what's going on in the children fashion world. But recently, I had dinner with friends who have children and they said I looked like the Snow Queen. Back at home, I did a little research, and since then "Let It Go" has been the song I sing all day long (prayers for my poor neighbours would probably be appreciated).

PS2: I just look like a much older version of the Snow Queen... But she's got to age, doesn't she?

PS3: I sound nothing like Idina Menzel (hence the prayers needed for my neighbours).

PS4: This was totally random. Will you forgive me?

Cela n'avait rien à voir avec l'article. Vous me pardonnez?

PS5: I'm partying with some great bloggers!

  1. You are so funny - every child in the stores are singing that song and then it gets into my head and I can't get it out. I also like the Be Happy one too.
Sounds like you are one very busy woman working on your cottage. Know you are anxious to get it finished so you can sit back and enjoy your tea. Do take some time off and enjoy a little summer vacation.
    Have a great weekend.

  2. I love all the kitchen pics you find!! I had you pegged as the Kitchen Queen, but I can add Snow Queen to your description too. I am with you on the green fridge and the misplaced garbage can......what were they thinking? Still a beautiful kitchen, and that fireplace is to die for!

  3. You crack me up! Maybe you should leave some earplugs on your neighbor's door step! LOL That kitchen is gorgeous but I agree, the big green fridge is ugly! I love the wooden countertops though...that's what I plan to put in when we remodel the kitchen. Have a blessed day...Vicky

  4. A garbage can in plain site?! Heavens NO! No self respecting blogger would ever do that!

In our house of 27 years, which we sold nearly two years ago, we had the garbage hidden (of course). At the time, we owned a residential cleaning business and the new owners of our home turned out to be our customers, so I was in the position of being able to see the house after they furnished it. One day while the team was there I went to the house (under the guise of checking their work but I was really being nosey) and I saw a huge garbage can immediately upon entering at the end of the kitchen peninsula! I won't even go into how cluttered the counters were! Just goes to show ya'...different strokes for different folks ;).

    J'aime bien cet espace ouvert.
Babette

  9. We are just beginning to paint our kitchen (and all the oak cabinetry in our cottage grey. So this inspires me. Though that kitchen is the size of two living rooms!

So funny about the Snow Queen. My daughter works at Starbucks and has little children yelling "there's Elsa" all the time through the drive thru! She is blonde with big blue eyes and braids her hair to the side like Elsa. She didn't even know who Elsa was until she babysat a little girl and saw the movie!

  10. I think you are the only person I can think of who hasn't heard the Let it Go song a hundred million times by now. I happen to have daughters in the correct age group and every time it comes on the radio they have a sing-off of epic proportions. And, my baby is going to be the snow queen for Halloween this year. I love that kitchen. I love subway tiles. I love the copper accents, thinking I need a kitchen makeover ASAP.

  12. LOL neither of us sound like Idina Menzel, but that bothers none of us :-) we all burst into loud singing now and then, leaving the rest of the family praying that it would stop soon :-) Also, I still love the way you have the same 'tic' as I have, that is to always look past the actors into de homes and decors of films and soaps. I even pay more attention to the scenery in the background, which often forces me to ask my husband "what did she of he say just now??" ... Oh well, it has given me useful ideas for travel destinations and for my own home interior, and I can always say "I am not the only one doing that" !! Grts, Marcy

    1. There are at least two of us... But if I trust the comments, a lot of us do that! I still haven't understood what's going on in that particular TV show, I'm too busy studying the set and trying to spot Jenna's baby bump!

  13. I guess when one has magical powers it's easy enough to transform ones kitchen from top to bottom. LOL. Fun post, Magali. I always enjoy your take on TV kitchens. Love the painted cabinets, beadboard and copper in this kitchen. Why in the world are they even showing those waste cans? It's a staged set for crying out loud. Anyway, great post, Magali. xxx ~ Nancy

  14. It's about time you took a day off. I am sure every Queen has to have a rest day sometime !
What intrigues me about American kitchens is the way they often have a tap over the cooker. I'd love to have one of those to put water over vegetables or whatever.

  15. LOVE these two cottage-y kitchens for their mix of colours and warm features of wood, charming accessories and cozy atmosphere, which I've tried to accomplish in my own kitchen, and see that you have managed it in yours!!
