Good News, Bad News

A Little Cottage Update

A huge thank you for your patience and for the messages I got during those last two weeks that have been very, very busy.

Life with the renovation going on is still completely crazy, but I decided to take a break this morning just to write a little update on what's going on.

Good news: Shadow is now used to Substitute Cottage and loves being in the huge park it's on.

Bad news: I don't let him out on his own here so I have to spend long hours with him outside, either with a book or my camera. All the pictures from this post were taken in my landlady's park.

Good news: I got a letter saying next year I'll be teaching in two schools located in a nearby town, which means less commuting for me than this year.

Bad news: I'll have to teach a grade I've never had before, so I'll have to prepare lessons during the summer.

Good news: The carpenters are working great at Cottage and I expect them to be finished very soon.

Bad news: The plumber and the electrician are not so fast to work and I don't expect them to be finished anytime soon...

Good news: I've read all the seven hundred posts from your blogs that had been piling in my inbox while I was without the Internet.

Bad news: Even if I read your posts, I didn't comment on them all... I'm not superhuman!

Good news: I will try to post updates more regularly now that I'm on school holidays and that the Internet is back working.

Bad news: I make no promises!

Mauvaise nouvelle : Je ne promets rien, cependant !

See you - possibly - soon,

A bientôt (si possible),

  1. These flower photos are just beautiful! I can't believe the size of those hydrangea bushes! Again, I am so happy that you heard where you will be teaching this year. What is the new grade level you will be teaching? Fingers crossed that the plumber and electrician will get finished more quickly than you anticipate. Enjoy your summer days!

    1. Thanks a lot! I'm dealing with a new emergency: the plumber made a mistake and there's a leak behind my brand new walls... I'm not happy at all... But somehow we'll find a solution!

  3. What a gorgeous place to wait it out! Sorry about the summer lesson prep - what a drag! Hope you get back home soon, with electricity AND plumbing in place.

  5. This post made me smile Magali, mso thank you for that :)

Isn't it always the case that there's good news and bad news? I suppose the trick is focusing on the good,Mohicans I sure you're doing quite well.

Your landlady's garden is amazingly beautiful!

Hang in there, and have a great weekend in your 'substitute' cottage.

  6. I think the good news outweighs the bad, Magali. So happy to hear your teaching position(s) have worked out.

Your photos are gorgeous... and when I think about all the setbacks we encountered while building our tiny cottage, it's just part of the two-steps-forward one-step-back process. We still have quite a bit to do, but it will all come together in time.

    Sending hugs,
    Lin

  10. Hi Magali, good news-you have a teaching job, life is beautiful! ( like the gorgeous hydrangeas ). Bad news-you have to wait a bit longer to be reunited with Mr. Cottage, so in the spirit of things, you can focus on new challenges like new lessons plans;). Have a nice kitty walk with Shadow, Kathleen in Az

    1. Fortunately, I keep a close eye on Cottage and tonight I noticed a leak behind my brand new walls... We'll have to open one tomorrow to check what the matter is and see if we can fix it.

  11. It is really beautiful where you are. Your temporary living is lovely. I can see why your kitty likes it. The blue hydrangeas are so soft and summery. Enjoy your tea in the gardens.

  12. Good to hear that you have teaching posts nearby. It is a very different system from our English one!
I do hope the workmen will get on with things for you...soon!

  13. At least you get to temporarily live in a beautiful place! I can see why your kitty does not want to come inside too soon! I am happy for you that you found teaching jobs close by. Hoping the plumber and electrician work very fast for you! I can't wait to see all the upgrades. Your photos are very pretty - have fun with Kitty! xo Karen

    1. The plumber actually has to redo some of his work tomorrow as I discovered it was leaking behind my living-room wall... I can't tell you how angry I am. But I also know this is only material, not life or death!

  14. So happy to know your working situation has been clarified and closer, not happy to know you have to prepare lessons during summer. Happy some of your workman are doing good work efficiently, not happy the plumbers and electrician are doofus birds and being slow pokes too. Happy Shadow likes the new place and tolerates being guarded. Look forward to seeing you again.

  17. Thanks for the update...good to hear from you again. Will your cottage be ready by the time you have to go back to work? I'm guessing the teaching system is different there...teachers only teach in one school here.

  22. MAGALI! Bonjour! Like you, I will be teaching a grade and class I've never taught before either, so I suppose SOON I need to meet with my colleague! But summer is much too wonderful and fun right now, so I don't want to think about it yet.

Good for you that you will not have so long of a commute! And while you are patiently waiting for Cottage to be finished, you are living in such a wonderful place; that stone and those gardens are worthy of many a photograph! Lovely place, and best wishes! Anita

    A bientôt !

  31. I'm glad Shadow has adjusted well, the other bad news about that would be once you move back to Cottage, he might have trouble adjusting again! Congrats too on your new job ahead, challenging to teach something new, but really also very good, since we all need some nudge like that once in a while to keep us on our toes. Glad too cottage is coming along nicely, let your plumber and electrician take their time, since those are truly tricky and you definitely don't want anything rushed on those areas! ;-) Love the photos of the flower by the way!
