Is There A Kitchen In The House?

When I was looking for a cottage to buy. I was kind of hoping to find one that would have an old kitchen, something looking like that.

And when I chose my cottage, this is how the kitchen looked like! Not even close from the inspiration, is it?

The two beautiful sliding door cupboard had to go away when I changed the floor because they were sealed on the also beautiful (ggghhh, sorry, I chocked on my tea just writing that word) tiles.

Since then, I've coped the best I could with what I had. Please admire my "pantry", also known as the cheapest shelves I could find on a second-hand website. And my amazing cooking range! And believe it or not, every meal eaten at The Little White House is home made there!

Improving the kitchen is my goal for the next summer. There are many decisions to take and a lot of inspiration to go through and a few DIY projects to complete along the way. I hope you'll follow my wandering mind through all this, because those orange walls and this non-existant shelf on the half-wall have to disappear!

So who's ready for this new adventure?

Alors, prêts pour cette nouvelle aventure?

See you soon then!

A bientôt donc,

I'm sharing my project with:

  1. I well remember the 'Bon Coin'!
Kitchens need such a loving hand to make them just as you want them.

  2. I am sure your kitchen will be beautiful when you finish. Just think you will have designed it. I think it is much easier to gut it and start all over again. I have updated my kitchen 3 times and still not the way I would have liked it.
Have a great school year and relax this weekend.

  6. Looking forward to everything! Hope you have a great weekend. Here in Colorado we have had enough rain and more coming. We have massive flooding in the state - as much rain in one week as we normally get in one year. We personally have no issues and are very thankful!

    Bon we.

  10. It's actually so sweet! I love the curtain under the sink. I don't know what is staying or going, but I LOVE the marble table and the plate cabinet and hope you incorporate them. It has so much charm and potential already.

I can see that a lot is cosmetic like the paint and that half wall and the way they placed the appliances. We were able to swap the position of the appliances in the floor plan while keeping the sink position, and that saved us money. I'm not sure why no one thought of it in the first place, but it seemed obvious after living with no kitchen for almost a year. We had a similar wall. We could only remove the half because in our case the the pipes were unfortunately in it.

I pin tons of kitchens on different boards, but my favorite boards are French Country Kitchens, Cottage Kitchens, and Small Kitchens in case you are need of ideas or inspiration.

I look forward to seeing the transformation.

  12. Looking forward to it, the ceiling is great and the window is great and I love your bits of furniture, especially the marble topped table.
I lived in London years ago with only a cooker like yours, it was called a Baby Belling, then I lived in this house in the early days, with only a microwave for two years. One learns to adapt doesn't one !

I've always wanted one of those. I think you've made do very well...it's very cute but I know you'll make it wonderful.

  22. I guess your kitchen has what we call "good bones". I know it will be lovely when you're done with it, though. And to think that you prepared that gorgeous pie that you gave the recipe for, I don't know how you did it!

  28. Wow, i just love this article. I think there should be a 4 wheel dollies in your kitchen. By this dolly, you can carry many things and also can transfer them very easily. It will give a premium look to your kitchen.
