Rizzoli, Isles & the kitchen

Watching TV With Magali (And Possibly Some Cats) - March 2014 Edition

Today is a birthday... My headache is three week old! We are good friends and are used to spend time with each others... But I thought it was clear now that it had over-stayed its welcome...

So, as I'm heading to the doctor for some help to kick that friend out, I thought I would leave you with some inspiration.

I haven't been the most productive thanks to dear headache, but I've spent some time watching some TV while drinking some tea and petting some cat(s).

You all know how I choose what I watch depending on the set... There are a few exceptions... "Rizzoli & Isles" is one of those.

I have a girl crush on Angie Harmon and I began watching the show because she was in it. She has a sense of comedy I admire. I kept watching because the dialogue between the two female friends is often witty and funny.

I think it's a pretty good hommage to the show that I watched even if Jane Rizzoli's place looks like nothing I'd like to live in...

Jane' appartment
But I was rewarded at the beginning of season 2 when a new set was created, Maura's place. I fell in love with the kitchen. And for a detective show, the characters sure spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

I like the colours of the cabinets. Is anyone else seeing "sea-glass"? They look greener or bluer depending on the light.

I'm totally in love with that window and the huge Belfast sink... Though as usual, I wonder what she does with the dishes she washes by hand to let them dry... Somehow, it's never included in any of the scripts...

There's a huge white island.

Il y a un immense îlot blanc.

And the fridge and  the wine cellar with their glass doors leave me drooling every time it's on screen.

I wouldn't be able to keep such a fridge good-looking, though...

I love the glass cabinets, though I wonder why the inside shelf is white. I think Maura should give it a coat of sea-glass paint between solving murders.

I've already metionned I'm not a grey girl, but the backsplash is working with the countertop. Also, Maura is a very chic girl, so I guess grey was a great choice.

The kitchen is open on the living-room and dining-room, so I'll give you a glimpse of what Maura sees from her kitchen, but before that can you spot on the left of the kitchen a little wood cabinet? It's my favourite thing in the whole kitchen... and it took me hours to get a screencap of it without any of the actresses blocking the view!

It holds seashells. How cute is that?

Et voilà la vue depuis la cuisine.

View from Maura's kitchen. Again, it took me for ever to have a good view of that gorgeous vintage desk she has.

So, what do you think of that kitchen?

Alors, que pensez-vous de cette cuisine?

See you soon,

A bientôt,

PS1: I know that post wasn't as witty as usual, but witty and headache aren't best friends. As I like you to laugh, especially on a Monday, here's Angie Harmon filling in for me.

I mean "What is it?"
PS2: You know what I'm the most excited about for next season? Are they going to create a nursery set???  I'm not going to translate that in French, because French TV is still in the middle of season 4...

PS3: Headache permitting, I'll be partying with some great bloggers.

The Dedicated House          Linky Party           Lavender Garden Cottage
Ivy and Elephants

PS4: And I'm off like a prom dress!

  1. What a great kitchen!!! I love the looks of the whole house! I've never watched this show. Looks like I'm really missing out.

  2. Definitely sea glass.............but, you know, that kitchen looks like a million others. No real character there. Except maybe the shell cabinet.
Do hope you can get rid of that wretched headache quickly.

  3. Oh headache sounds bad...not fun at all. I love the window above the sink in that kitchen. I think I would need to see this on my own screen to get a better sense of it all. The space off the kitchen seems kind of cramped...too much furniture for me perhaps...not sure.
Anyway, I sort of agree with Elizabethd. I used to fantasize over that bar stool design but now I see those everywhere as stools and dining chairs. Still love them but they leave me a little flat now.
Best of luck with the headache.
OH and sounds like we need to hear more about your prom night???

  5. Sorry about the headache! There's a flu bug going around here that involves getting migraines every other day. It lasts & lasts - maybe that's what's going on?? Love Angie Harmon, I've thought she was fabulous ever since she was on Law & Order. xox

  9. Hope you recover real soon! I am being harassed by a nasty flu for 2 weeks now, and frankly, I am sick of coughing and wiping my nose all the time (the skin on my nose already peeled off :s) So with all of my heart I wish we both get well soon :-D As for the kitchen, it looks great, but not light enough to my taste. I always wonder how people clean windows that are not free: by hopping on their counters LOL ? But maybe they just don't... greetings, Marcy

    1. I don't think Maura has time for cleaning her windows anyway with all those murders to solve ;)
I hope you'll feel better soon!

  10. It's a good idea of kitchen set. Sometime a good idea comes from unpredictable moment and place.

  11. Oh wow Magali! I love it and before you ever said sea glas...that's what I was thinking. It is gorgeous! The colors are aso tranquil and work so well together. Thanks for sharing. I do hope you get some relief from your headache soon. I can't imagine having a headache that long. I'll keep you in my prayers.

  12. Adore the sea-glass coloured kitchen. Very cottage. Hope you get to feeling better my friend. My mother is a herbalist, so I am sure there is some sort of tea and food you can take for that....or medicine works too! Diane

  13. Oh boy, I love this kitchen, and I want that window too, but then I want all of it. The sea glass color is so pretty on the cabinets. I sure hope you can get away from these headaches soon! Take care

  15. This is my idea of a perfect kitchen! I am in love with the sea glass colored cabinets and that little sea shell shelf is darling. It looks like the sweetest cottage. I have never watched this show but I will have to take a look! I feel for you having such a headache - I had one all day today, too. I hope you get some relief soon! xo Karen

    1. I was surprised that the kitchen looked quite coastal to me as well, not something I was expecting from the character. But it's a nice inspiration!

  16. Dear Magali,

no wonder you´ve got a headache - this is due to kitchen-planning, I would assume. I hope you will be getting better soon. Perhaps you need that spring break most terribly? Sometimes peppermint-oil is very helpful for headaches (tension headache for example). It is as effective as classical pain-killers and without side-effects, if you like the smell.
I liked this post, it looks so real. Perhaps you should change your profession and do film-sets instead?
    Have a nice day!
    Yours Sarah

Babette

  18. Oh Magali, feel better soon!!! That is horrible and far too long to suffer. On the bright side, you haven't lost your taste for gorgeous kitchen pictures. Thanks for sharing.

  19. I'm sorry to hear you've had such a long headache--here's hoping it goes away quickly! Tea and cat petting always helps in these situations. I've never heard of this tv show, but now I'll have to look for it. I've been crazy-busy in the garden, just cleaning and starting to get vegetable beds prepared and planted. It's been sunny and warm here--normally it rains non-stop this time of year, so we've been very lucky.

  20. Sorry about the headache. :( My sister swears by a strong dose of caffeine and a dark room. I sort of love that you choose what shows to watch based on whether you like their sets or not. The sink...LOVE IT....and yes, it needs to be a double basin, otherwise it is not practical. So, now I need your advice. My daughters are going to French school and are going to leave me in the dust and I will never understand what they are saying in a year or two. What French TV shows or movies do I need to watch so I can learn French in a fun way. I've got Amelie....that's it.

  21. I am not a fan of the tile in that kitchen, but I do love everything else. I guess that I am not that fond of grey either.

  22. Fun post - I have never seen that show, but I do not watch very much television. I guess all women (detectives or not!) spend a lot of time in the kitchen! I so hope that the doctor was able to help with your headache. My husband is plagued with them and it is not pleasant to have one that will not go away!

  23. BEAUTIFUL kitchen! And I totally get the girl crush. I've only seen the first season of R&I but I like the show...I need to get caught up!

I hope your headache is gone!

  24. I like the color of the cabinets, the glass fronts, the little shelves on the side and the wall sconces. The little wood cupboard with shells is delightful. The sink is fantastic. We don't have network or cable TV, so I'm not familiar with this show. I love Angie Harmon, though, so I'm sure I'd enjoy this series. Maybe Netflix will carry it when it goes off the air. I enjoyed the video of the out takes. Very funny. I'm sorry you're suffering with this headache, Magali. I hope it ends very soon. ~ Nancy

  26. It's a nice kitchen but doesn't seem very cosy and what are those things under the wall lights beside the sink, they look like lobsters !?!
I do love the cubby with all the shells and the colours are great but I really do think that your kitchen will be much prettier.
