Revealing My Next Project

Since I bought Cottage, every year, the "ber" months have been the planning months. They are months when Cottage and I have sometimes very difficult discussions and decide what should be done in spring and summer.

1.

2.
This year, the "ber" months are filled with discussion about rewiring the upstairs electricity... Not a very interesting 2015 project to blog readers, I know, so I hope to keep you entertained with the transformation of my dining-room while some very boring but very important work is done upstairs.

3.

4.
Just to prove you that I don't only have kitchens in mind and that I have already begun thinking about the dining-room or dining-nook, I'm going to share some of my inspiration pictures to show you where I'm going...

5.

6.
So what do the pictures tell?
I'd like my room to be really light and airy, with some (or a lot of) white.

7.
I'd also love to have a cosy room and I think adding some wood tones, be it in the flooring or in a piece of furniture or two would help.

8.

9.
I'd love to add a little whimsy to the room, maybe by painting a piece in an other colour than my usual white... But will I have the guts to do it?

10.

11.

Last, but absolutely not least, I'd love a beautiful overhead lighting above the table.

12.

Now after seeing all those gorgeous pictures, are you ready to see what the room looked like when I visited Cottage? Really ready?

Somehow I had an intuition I could make it work... A few of the transformations have already happened and you have seen some of it in different pictures on the blog, but the real fun part, the decoration, is scheduled for 2015... Stay tuned!

Any favourite picture? And please, don't tell me the last one!

See you soon,

A bientôt,

PS2: There might be other transformations than the electricity upstairs next year, but the jury is still out on those projects... I'll tell you more when I know more!

  3. I love your inspiration ideas. You can add a fun color to the white and if you don't like it just paint it white. It's only paint.

  4. I love number 11. I think you could go there!

    1. I'm actually thinking about painting the chairs that I have rather than buying new ones, like the ones in number 11.

  5. Number 6 speaks to me, but they're all beautiful rooms. I can't wait to see the "after" photos!

  6. I love all the pictures. No doubt Cottage will be opinated on it what it wants (much like mine does), and it will guide you in your choices. A touch of natural wood warms up white and makes it cozy, you will make it beautiful. Patty/NS

  7. They are all simply gorgeous, but I like numbers 6, 9, and 11 the best. Those blue chairs are gorgeous and now I'm thinking of painting some for my dining room. We are building our own table to fit the room. I can't wait! The people who lived there before you had NO taste did they? LOL Enjoy your Sunday.

    Blessings, Vicky

  11. My choice would be #1 or 11. All of them are very lovely, but if I had my choice it would be the ones I listed. I am sure what you select will be beautiful - you have made wonderful choices so far. Have fun with your decisions.

  12. I love them all so there is no way I can choose a favorite. I agree with Kim. Tyr a different color and if you don't like it paint over it in white. xo Laura

  13. I like the direction you're moving in! All your pictures are gorgeous, but I especially like pictures 4 and 6. And the ones with the seaglass blue painted furniture are very enticing! I think I would have to paint a piece just to see.... Always can change the color if you don't like! That's the nice thing about paint! Can't wait to see the progress!

    1. One of my favourite seaglass shade will probably appear in the room, maybe on the chairs, maybe on a sideboard... It's something I'll tackle next spring when the days are longer.

    2. I'm wanting to paint my antique pressed back dining chairs. They need refinishing, and I sure don't want to tackle that hard job! Haven't gotten up the courage to paint them... yet! But maybe they will be pink or green or sea glass some day! :)

  14. So cute to call them the ber months. It makes me think "Brrrrr, it's getting cold." Please have the courage to paint something a color. Those white rooms look great with one touch of color that draws your eye to it.

  15. I have a small dining area and I found a round table for it. It sits four easily but you can squeeze in six if needed. I love round tables, they make for easier conversation:) I love the table in #3 and the colors in #11, but that is not really important. What matters is which one you like the best:)

  16. I like them all, but there's something very special about #11, and I kept scrolling back to it. I love the shades of blue and yellow together. So cheery and cottagey. I guess I like blue. Thanks for sharing at Every Room In The House, Magali. xxx ~ Nancy

  17. With winter in mind (BeRRR !) I would prefer room nr 8 : that room seems to be warmer, with all the wood in it. Also the chairs look comfy to me, especially the arm chair ! But I would use the vaisselier not just for demonstration, I would arrange the plates and stuff in a "ready-to-use" way. Ahhh, if only I had a cottage (sigh)... Love, Marcy

    1. A few months ago an armchair just like that one popped on the website I use to buy second-hand stuff... I noticed it late in the evening, the next day when I called, it was sold... I was so disappointed! I'm still looking for one.

  18. Hello Magali, I think you are have some great ideas for your dining room. I know you can’t wait to get started. I remember how much fun you seem to have while you were renovating the kitchen. I will look forward to your transformation of the dining room. Don’t hesitate to try color, an easy fix if you don’t like it!

  22. I adore all of these, and in fact I'm sure I've pinned many of them. The soft blues in the third is lovely, but I love the whites in the others.

  23. I love #s 1 and 10. But, they are all pretty. I love the look of rustic furniture with a blingy chandelier.

  29. Oh I will be watching closely to how you deal with lighting in your dining room. I have been struggling with affordable and beautiful. I know, obviously those two features do not necessarily go together but, hey....hoping.

  30. I love #11! I love that yellow and blue together. It really is getting cold, isn't it. :(

  31. Okay, fine, not the last one. Lol I'd say #6 or #10, but I don't like the light fixture above #10. Too fussy for me. I like lots of white with hardwood floors and a bit of whimsy. Whatever you choose, I know I'll love it, because you came through with a great kitchen!!

  32. I'm loving all of those rooms of inspiration. I am jealous because we have old family pieces we really must use (my marriage is at stake) and I can't do all white. You do white beautifully. I am really excited to see what you make happen. I wouldn't even mind reading about the upstairs~ It might be electrifying :)

  33. All very beautiful dining rooms, but my very favorite is #9! There is something so charming about that one - warm and cozy and lived in. Although I love to view all white rooms in other people's houses, I have to have soft colors. They absorb the light rather than reflect. But I know whatever you choose will be beautiful! I can't wait to see. xo Karen

  35. I love all of your inspiration photos! That is exactly the feeling I would love to create in my own home although it is far from a seaside cottage. We are about a mile from the beach so I love a cottage-by-the-sea look. :)

  36. Wow, all those rooms are so beautiful, I could never pick a favorite - love them all! I love light, airy rooms too, but I do have to have some color in a room, too.

  37. I think all of your inspiration photos are fabulous, as a matter of fact I have several of those pinned myself! I joke around that there are always those girls that wish they could've worn 10 different dresses on their wedding day...well, I am that girl that would have 10 different kitchen or dining rooms in my house! I would start with many you have here! Good luck with your projects!

  38. Wow, couldn't pick just one I love them so much! But I do like some of those pops of color. But of course that first photo of the porch and watering cans took my breath away!

  39. I LOVE the DR with the light blues & yellows!! You could even pale them down a bit more if you like...
    Enjoy the process!

  40. Oh, six and twelve get my vote, just what I'd love, but all are beautiful. Can't wait to see the direction you decide to take.

  41. #1 and #2 are my favorites. UGH! Electrical work in our house always turns out to be a major mess. Good luck! I loved your framed garbage collection calendar - better than being awakened by the truck making its rounds.

  42. There is some lovely inspiration here Magali. I like so many of them, but my favorite is the next to the last one, with the white, lace edged tablecloth and white floors. I'm swooning over it! Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great weekend!
    Blessings, Deborah

  43. All of these are lovely, Magali, but #9 speaks to me for its warmth, coziness, colour, and texture. It's charming but dramatic and I love this combination as it feels like it's lived in. Of course, you don't have to limit yourself to only one; why not take the things that capture your heart from each and combine them? Good luck!
