Blues in the sea

The Sea Colour File - Part 2

If you've missed the first part of this series, about the inspiration behind this series, hop on there: some breathtaking views from my little corner of France are waiting for you!

Those sea views that surround me are what triggered that study on the sea colour. "Blue" is actually a word that doesn't really mean anything: from navy blue to baby blue, from nearly grey to almost green, it can give completely different atmospheres to a room.

I chose a few kitchen pictures from my files, hoping they will inspire you and guide you to the blue that is right for you.

1. Dark blue aka "sea at sunset", via Hooked on Houses.

2. Light blue aka as "sea on a spring day", via EmmaJaneNation (don't you love the name of her website, so imaginative!).

3. Baby blue aka "sea at sunrise" via Kitchen Design Ideas. I love those glass cabinet.

4. Teal aka "sea on a hot summer afternoon" via Feather and Branch.

5. Bright aqua aka "sea on a hot summer morning" via The Maisonnette.

6. Seafoam aka as "seafoam" (I had to think a lot to find that one) via House Beautiful. It's funny how colours have different names in English and French. "Seafoam" would be translated by "écume", and "écume" is an off-white, creamy colour. It makes sense, doesn't it?
I love that pink elements have been added to that kitchen.

7. Blue-grey aka "sea on a stormy day", via House to Home. Noticed? Again some pink bowls.

8. Blue-green aka"sea when the fog clears out", via House Beautiful. Love that Farrow & Ball colour, called Teresa's green.

I know very well that blue can't be limited to eight shades (there are probably fifty, it can't be less than for grey, can it?), but if I show you all the pictures in my file, you'll think I'm crazy. I believe a range of eight shades is a good start to chit-chat about blue. So, which one is your favourite?

Please suscribe by email if you don't want to miss the next part! We'll be seeing in which rooms blue is at its best... since I don't have only kitchens in my file! Psst! I also added a follower gadget thingy as it has been asked in comments...

  2. Gorgeous pictures of kitchens, Magali--I love blues, and actually I use blues and yellows in my kitchen. Our house accent trim is in a deep teal blue, which I love! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

    1. I have a few pictures of blue/yellow decor in my file that I'll be using in a next post. We had snow today, that changed from rain! I'm trying to find in which box is Hamlet (nearly all my books are in boxes due to the renovation going on): thanks to you, I want to re-read it!

  4. Wow. Gorgeous photos. I think #1 is my favorite, but there is something about #5. The white with the splash of blue in the appliances. Fun!
