Feeling Blue

The Sea Colour File - Part 1

I always feel blue in January.

Days are very short : in Brittany, it's still dark at 8 am and it's already dark at 5:30 pm.

I'm getting older. I know I'm actually getting older every day... But it gets more official in January when it's my birthday.

There are no attic-sales to go to on Sundays.

I've decided this year to "celebrate" that blue feeling by a series of posts on the colour blue.

Blue is probably the colour I would never have considered in my home when I was younger.

But three years ago, I moved to Brittany. The pictures in this post are all of places really close to the Little White House, so you can understand why blue keeps popping in my mind lately.

Because the weather is always changing here, the colour of the sea varies as well.

But on sunny summer days, here is its perfect colour:

I already feel much better after watching those pictures.

Do you have a hard time coping with January? How long (or how short!) are the days where you live?

If you're curious to see where this series going, don't forget to suscribe! Let me know if you do as I'll return the favour of course.

PS: All pictures are mine, except for the last one, which was taken by a friend of mine when she visited last summer.

You can read part 2 of this series, where I explore different shades of sea blue in home decoration here.

PPS: I'm partying at...

  3. I know what you mean about January and feeling a little blue, but you handled it well with your lovely photos featuring the color blue in this post, Magali! I hope you have a very happy birthday. I have had an interesting week--I got a new camera, which is good, but I can't figure out how to download the pictures I took from it. Also, my computer completely died yesterday, but I ended up getting a new one, so it all worked out! However, I haven't been able to work on the blog at all, and it's very frustrating. Ah well, here's to a better day soon!

    1. I'm so jealous you have a new camera. It's been my dream for a while... But having no kitchen, I have to prioritize (is that a word?). I hope when I'll have a new camera, you'll be able to help me, since you will be experienced!!!

  6. Gorgeous photos. How fortunate you are to live so close to such beauty. The daylight here lasts a bit longer but I don't usually have a hard time with the lack of sun and cold chilly days. Sometimes, I think deep down I am a hermit. But then the sun shines and I make plans to be outside all day, so maybe not. :-)
I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

    1. I'm very flattered. I hadn't added the followers gadget as I was afraid it would look ridiculous to have three followers... I'm going to add it and we'll see! Thanks for visiting and you're welcome any time you need to see the sea!

  8. I love your blue series! The kitchens you found are beautiful. I hear you about the dark. Right now where I live (West Coast United States) it is 5:19pm and it's already dark outside. In late December it's dark by 4:30pm!! My husband says that we might as well live in Norway if it's going to be this dark. But I love the lush green landscape from all the rain, so I don't mind. I'm just working on making my interior as cheerful as possible and that really helps, too. Cheers to the blues! :-)

    1. I'm so honored you stopped The Little White House. I've been reading Cottage Magpie for a while, even before I bought the house and began trying to "cottage-ify" it.

  9. Happy birthday month to you! I've always had my own little theory that one's favorite season is the one born into - but you prove me wrong. I'm a Spring baby, so there just is not enough color for me in Winter. ANYWAY, loving your blue series. Such serene photos you've found. I think paint companies have done a great job over the last years of creating really lovely blues - before that, I probably would not have painted a wall with blue either.

  10. I am visiting from Time Travel Thursday and have enjoyed reading several of your posts. The kitchen pictures are beautiful and the ones on this post are terrific. The blue of the ocean is so blue! I live on the MS Gulf Coast and our water is not as lovely as yours. I am partial to blue of any color and have it in several areas of our home. I have always loved the early winter darkness. I think it stems from living in Maine when I was a child and coming in from playing in the snow to the delicious smells coming from my mom's kitchen and the warmth of our home. Nice memories and they have stuck with me! I ma your newest follower and looking forward to visiting again.

  11. Time is just an illusion, Dear. It's the human system to calculate how long we have been living in this world. It does not matter how long we have lived, what matters is the lessons we have learnt in this life. Cheers!

  13. Bonjour Magali. I knew a Magali in my younger travelling days and we worked together in Switzerland... beautiful name. Your home is looking lovely and the setting is stunning.
